using that set-up... it's like riding on a rail. pretty freaking sweet. i cant say enough. only reason i was considering a magnum is i'm working on dropping a 1100 in another x2 hull.

Mag pumps are different. Where a 10/16 may work in a stock pump (or with a TBM/Afterburner) the same pitch prop is likely to not work the same on the Mag. Prop pitch, cutback and nozzle sizes have to be tuned just like jetting / Needles-Seat and Popoff in a carb.

This is true. Because a Mag pump needs less water to stay loaded then you must also use a taller prop for them to work efficently. I tried a low end pitched prop (similar to what I used in my stock pump) and it just spun and cavated in my Mag pump. I had the prop in the Mag pump repitched (I have a 14/18) and it worked way better

i ordered SXR Thrust Force Pump Cone from blowsion on tues, since i blew my set back magnum pump up on monday at the lake. I've called skat trak many times and they said that me and one other guy blow magnum pumps more than anyone else. he says that i have to send it in every 6 months for rebuild or it gets VERY expensive.

-some of you Don't realize that 227 rides literally ( i'm not lying) 3-4 times PER WEEK in the salt. Skat Trak heard that i do that too and they said well of course your having trouble. thats like 150 hours on a pump every six mos. So 2 years of no maintaince (600 hours) on the pump, itll blow up everytime.

I'll let you know how the thrust force feels even though most of your won't care since you ride sj's.

compaired to a Mag, It wont be as good, but much better than stock.

Im still up in the air on pump size,I have a 148 mag with a 13/18 I would like to trade for a smaller mag just to see how it compares for my motors power range,I dont think im making enough power to need this large a pump.

You know I never really thought of that DUH! I should stop whinning! I guess I'm getting about the same life as everyone else, I'm just going through it quicker. STILL I have never needed to rebuild my stock SJ pump and I ran that pump for quite a while before I got the magnum

ya, or an easier fix would be to not put 300 hours on your ski each year and sit on your butt.

oh and.. i just got the pump stuffer cone in the mail. i ll put it in and let you know how it goes. it better rock for 240 bucks!

any updates with the install. did you like it. how dose it compare to r@d tbm or magnum

i have ben running a mag pump in my superjet of around 8 or so years. 4 motors and 100 setup changes and still the same bearings. i would guess around 800 to 1000 hours on my pump. i run synthetic oil in mine. i now have mag pumps in all my boats blasters and all.

ok, so installed the pump stuffer and is DEFINATELY better than stock. really good on initially 1/8 throttle i assume since it doesnt take much to fill the pump. mid hits harder. top end i'd need a radar gun to really tell plus i don't really need top in the surf. biggest surprise was i get about 15 minutes less on ride time with stock pump, 5 min less with pump stuffer.

conclusion- MAG PUMP is the best because

-it hits hardest on very low bottom and more throughout range
-fuel ecomony is better(i assume pump is more efficient with 12 veins and ZERO cavitation in whitwash.)
-whitewash or aerated water or regular, mag knows no difference.(big plus on huge surf days)

BUT-- for 300 bucks the pump stuffer comes A LOT closer to MAG FEEL for 1200 bucks less so definately worth the money if you don't have 1500 or 2000 for the setback mag pump setup.

YEP, Just turn it up and dump in the fluid. Put cap / cone on and run her. If the cone has the removable bolt in it the use a fork seal suringe and fill it up even more (I did this on my OEM pumps as well. Never had a pump bearing issue. Replace them when I get a used pump and never again need to take the cone off. KNOCK ON WOOD. Intermediates are another storry GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR Freakn hate em.

exactly bro.

You running a mag prop with that TBM pump cone? They hook up pretty nice that way.

Even an OEM 08' & up pro is nice with the TBM, big rear hub matches the cone nearly perfect. Makes a stock prop work twice as nice.

what kind of transmission fluid are you using? me being a car guy i understand there are tons of differnt kinds with different propertys also im about to put some fresh bearings in mine before i put mine in and im considering my options. synthetic ATF seems like it would be kinda thin but then again it has a long life span, great wear protection (where its intended to be used) and the low viscosity should flow threw the bearings with ease. considering that the level never gets low.. maybe mag pumps should start comming with dip sticks... haha

i use to run my pump on oil .
i just use basic motor oil .
in case of water intrusion it kills the bearing on just one ride... when the same issue append with marine grease they can last a little longer .
Smoother pump rotation no doubt about that .

This is a great thread. I picked up a 12 ton press from Harbor Freight for $103 plus tax after my coupons and got a free flash light. I have often wondered about the pump cones and what not and from this thread I feel I will be sticking with my stock pump. I really don't want to drop the money for a mag pump just yet or the deal of my dreams hasn't popped up.

I'll just stick with the Hooker 9/15 and my magnetic fuel enhancer, hahaha.
