I began spitballing turf ideas last night with my one-inch thick turf that I felt was too thick for practical applications but might prove nice for greater tray molding.

I beveled the edge of the turf to provide a gentler slope when riding and I'm still unsure whether or not that was such a good idea. It will certainly be easier to turf should my new stuff ever get here. I may also place a little ridge of padding on the edge next to the sides.

You can use sandpaper with that padding to smooth it out, though it might not matter after you get some turf over it.

Why no padding under the feet? Isn't that where it is needed most?

Good point and sorry for the lack of clarification.

I thought the thick pad would be better but it's just too damn thick so I currently have the 25mil pad (super-thick) laid down and have the 8mil (normal underpad) ordered to dissect for the feet areas. I also ordered new side turf because my current ones have "HYDRO-TURF" on them and will get chopped down to "RO-TURF" and "HYDRO-T" because of the footholds. So I ordered blank sides. I'm also going with OEM rail pads because they're so squishy soft.

I'm debating whether or not to groove out channels under the thick pad to allow water to escape.

very nice build. just about to embark on the same project, but I doubt I will go as deep as you did. $$$$$ At least you showed me a few nice details I can do on the cheap. thanks. One bit of advice-glass that MDF or find some solid plastic like a cutting board or something. take a small scrap of that MDF and put a few drops of water on it an leave it for a week or so and it will look like a Chia Pet! found that out the hard way. It will swell also and then crumble and leave a mess in the hull. Other than that I love your "How to build an awesome ski thread".:hail:

Also, very dissapointed that you look nothing at all like your avatar!LOL At least you could have found an afro wig for the build pics!?:afro: :261:

hi shonuff,

just to give you another turfing/padding option to consider...

you could draw the form of your shoes...
padd the undershoes with a less thicker one (blue in my pic)
and keep the thick padding everywhere else.

I personnaly like it as when you ride, it's comfy and it looks good imho. :cheer:

Cheers
