we're an hour from home and a headon crossover accident happened like 2 minutes ahead of us, 2 parents and a baby just burned to death like 300 feet from our van, people trying to help couldn't get the doors open...

after seeing something like this you have to talk about it as therapy to get it out of your current thoughts and on w/ your life.

myself and a friend recued a 16yr old after a median crossing w/ mulitple roll over. still can see it like the day it happened

We're home finally, over an hour later than we would have been due to the accident. (posted earlier on my phone)

We were probably the 6th vehicle stopped on our side of the highway, and at first just knew it was an accident with a little light colored smoke which you'd expect from a radiator or whatever. Then it turned into a fire and people were running around looking for fire extinguishers. I pulled mine out and gave it to a lady, but it was too late.

We talked to a few people that saw more of it and they said guys were doing everything possible to get the doors open but couldn't, and since it was a PT Cruiser, the windows are pretty small so it wouldn't have helped much plus the fire I'm sure wasn't helping.

The truck driver was fine, the parents/baby passed away. Our 4 year old kept asking what happened and wanted to see, but we didn't let her and ended up saying a prayer with the girls for the people in the accident.

Mindy/I are pretty shaken up, it's really sobering to be that close.

They just had an update on the news, it was a crossover accident, the PT Cruiser was southbound like us and crossed over to hit a semi. Here's the thing, both vehicles were in the median with the PT in front of the semi, so it must have hit and been pushed until the truck stopped.

Oops, just saw live video and it's a Chevy HHR and there were 4 passengers in it.

What was the speed limit? We had a lot of that right here in Marysville along I-5, they dropped the limit to 60 and it seems to have reduced the crossover problem a lot, the cable barriers were doing nothing to stop vehicles from making it accross the median.

btw, after our last bathrooms top, Dawson threw a fit right as we hit the highway because I forgot to buckle him, so I had to pull off the side of the onramp, get out and buckle him, then get going again.

Had that not happened, we might have been involved or actually seen it happen, who knows.

I keep thinking if I had gotten out and gone up there, maybe I could have helped, maybe I could have gotten my 18" breaker bar to pry the door open, maybe this, maybe that. After seeing the video footage on tv, I doubt those passengers were conscious/alive or that my little 18" breaker bar or fire extinguisher would have helped since there were several semi's stopped and they carry decent size extinguishers/tools/etc.

70mph speed limit there, so I'd imagine the impact to them was like hitting a wall at 140mph+ then getting pushed backwards as the truck was carrying steel and that little HHR didn't stand a chance.

We have cable barriers all over the place, but not that far up I-71 yet.

Sorry Darin. That had to be awful.
It will probably continue to be with you for a long time.

I can never forget Jeremy's little boy passing away in front of me.

I can't imagine that myself, either as a parent or a friend.

When we finally got to drive past, they had emergency vehicles corralled around the scene with tarps up to keep you from seeing anything.

death is a rough thing to witness

it makes you attempt to call all of your beliefs what ever they are and try to make sense of things

and really ya can't always. often the best that can be done is take stock in your luck and your family . live large as much as you can.. or at least try to smile a lot

sounds sorta simple and corny i suspect but it at least gets me by
