New Stand-up input

Please reply to this if you have a minute. Let's just say a new stand-up is going to be coming out in 07 or 08. What should it be like? What's the ideal stand-up for you and everybody? What's your honest opinion? Should manufacture listen to the public or go with their own proven ideas?

Consider all facts too of other models.
Examples:
Yamaha SJ's 90-present--It the top seller, but hasn't change. Little out dated.
Kawasaki SXR- Great for racing, but maybe not a good play ski
Hydrospace-4-stroke! good looks but try get one or the parts.
Polaris Octane-great power but didn't turn as well as it should
Seadoo 3D--good try, almost, but not quite. I think the message boards speak for it's self.

Who would be the best to make it? does it matter?
Should it be Race or Freeride? or both?
4-stroke, 2-stroke, or something different all together? who should make it?
What's a fair price?
Should it come ready to go compete in competition?
Colors?
Interchangeable parts?
Order options?- Like car company Scion.
Accessories? Gauges, GPS.
Very easy to ride or a good challenge?
Top-speed? or bottom-end? or balance?

Thanks for taking the time to think and answer to this honestly.

Foothold cutouts, but comes stock with blanks installed.

For the 4-stroke boys, a Wankel rotary would be excellent---lightweight, high revving, reliable, and for us freestylers they can be converted to 2-stroke operation.

rear side exhaust.

Painted white with a decal kit. That gives the option to strip the graphics and either get a new kit or paint or leave it alone.

I would like to see a Superjet-like hull, but with better hull material, making it stronger and lighter. Options for footholds would be nice, but I don’t think it’d be cost-effective, considering you cannot race with footholds.
A Solas or Skat pump would be nice. Also, Hydroturf stock.
For engines, I think a GP800 type engine would be an awesome upgrade – make it a FI engine and the treehuggers are kept at bay for a while. Really, anything with more displacement and Lamey type port configs.

An updated play ski would be great. Maybe an updated SJ with a PV800 ported for low end instead of peak power. It should be priced similar to what they are now, they are single passenger after all. I don't need any gauges but an accurate tac would be nice for tuning but not necessary. it needs to be hard enough to ride to keep it playful. All bottom end baby.

brraap....thats so 2002
no matter what they build it wont make everyone happy, i would like to see the introduction of more single or 2 seater models, like the X-2 i would hope they finally update the SJ, but not a 4 stroke, god knows what you'll have to do when one of those takes a **** on you......part it out for a loss like the 450 four srtoke bike owners do.

I say keep it a clean 2 stroke, like DI or EFI or something. Powervalves are sweet too. I agree with dropping in the 800. I don't think footholds would be a great idea, how universally accepted would they be? I like cuttin it up and installing them anyways :firedevil: One thing I don't think I'd like (well i have no idea really) is the real low sides of the HS tray. Those don't look like they'd take footholds well. at all. Keep it light. Heck, just keep the SJ how it is but change the bedplate around and get the 800 in there! :Banane01:

(As posted in PWCT)

If I believed the top 2 manufacturers would listen (ie. yamaha) then I would put more thought into this. They won't so the "dream" standup is the one you create into your liking (using a SJ as the foundation).

There are many standups on this very forum that would be a "dream" to own...and all of those were made into their dream!

Manufacturers are faces with the one thing that ruins it for most hardcore or passionate riders...the compromise. The ultimate dream ski would have an even smaller target audience (even less sales of standups). So they build what they think will sell the most and the "dream" takes a back-seat. The fact that the 3D was made, SJ unchanged for 10 years, SXR gained lots of fat tell me the manufacturers ain't listening. Don't even get me going on the trend of all these 800+ pound.....errr.... "PWC"

IMO they stopped making "PWC" back in the mid/late 90's.

BTW: My prediction for 2007 = BNG!

I think the stand up market will (and probably should) go entirely aftermarket.
There is soooo much personalization that needs to go into a ski.
Everyone likes to do things a little different.
My ski is and will allways be my favorite one to ride.
It's also the one I'm the most comfortable on.

If you consider what most people use their stand-ups for on this board, you'd probably agree that a mfg would not be able to come close to pleasing half of them.

But, I'll still answer the question. :)
- 275lb maximum dry weight
- DI 2-stroke
- adjustable handlepole
- adjustable engine mounting (for weight distribution)
- adjustable ride plate length
- air intake through handlepole (primarily)
- aluminum handlepole
- tuneable wet pipe
- rear side exhaust (like JETT said)
- handholds designed into the lines of the hood
- built in the USA in Lincoln Nebraska by KAWASAKI!
- and most importantly $4000 MSRP ceiling!!! (so some yonger people can get interested in the sport)

whew!

Wow, bingo! Add in the Hype-o-space that is heavier than the SXR too. I guess the FX-1 was the beginning of the end.

The only thing I could think of is to let people "build their own ski" like when ordering from the factory. Keep the same hull, let us pick the size of the motor, I mean maybe I want to buy one for someone starting out, and don't want an 800 in there, maybe just a 500. I think if they just stayed to stuff they already have on the shelfs, they would be ok.
