if it were up to me, I'd have an array of cameras.

What I want is one of these....

A number of my brothers friends are into video, and use this camera.

A couple of the shots in this new video were shot with a Cannon GL2

The quality of this camera is FAR superior to the shtty hand held we normally use. I've considered getting a waterproof bag for it from ewa. They are good to about 30 feet, which is alright considering we really only need it for splash protection.

don't tease me. Lonny, the guy who does the AMCF movies, has a real expensive camera like that, but it isn't HD. i think its around $30,000!!!

Mikey...we don't need that kind of equipment to get good quality footage. We just need to be more creative with what we can afford. And there are camears out there that will give us much better quality than we have not for not all that much $$$. The difference between what we are using and what Jerry has shown me is possible with just slightly better camera equipment would blow you away!

But we also have guys like Chris, Daylite, and Lonnie that we need to be working with a lot...They have the skills, desire and equipment to do some unreal things with video and production. And now with Jerry's unreal abilities...I see the future of Freeride DVD's as being verry bright...oh wait:cool2: I had to put those on...

Everyone is working a slightly different angle at this point as far as the type of production they have in mind. And I think that is great. When was the last time you guys knew of when there were 3 (or4 if you count us) very serious DVD projects underway in the US? And each one will benefit from the other...more quality produt available will lead to more interest and exposure. And for us to advance as a sport I think that exposure is a huge key...

i was just kidding about that. But I do think the cameras that Jerry just mentioned with a waterproof bag is the way to go. A lot of the guys at work have cameras like that, and like you said, the quality is waaayy better then the the cheepo consumer cameras. They produce an image that you would feel comfortable distributing or showing to potential sponsors.

mmmmm, pana dvx 100 is the goods, although i have heard that it requires a ton of cleaning (like sending off kinda thing) somewhere in the range of two to three times a year...but it has larger ccd pick ups than the gl does so the image comes out smoother in some cases...

canon gl2...i love my gl2. it sucks for low light but there are work arounds. look at the addiction teaser again, there is a shot of ronny from riot in there that has "light traces" in it. this is not an effect i applied, it is the result of forcing the camera to deal with a low light situation...all that said though, the gl will kill any other comparable camera on a good sunny day. the color saturation is second to none, and the addition of progressive scan and certain filters will really make footage go nutty, i love it...

now the problem with any of these cams is that they are not the best for helmet cam set ups. i don't think anyone really wants the added weight of a gl or dvx100 when they are trying to pull rolls in surf, especially when any accidents with the cams are gonna cost minimum $300 to get fixed...

i have two smaller cams (one of which sporting a 3ccd pickup, albeit smaller than the gl's pickups) that i would use for something like that...less weight and smaller price tags if they get destroyed...

oh, and i almost forgot...

the "not so good" footage from non 3ccd cams can be manipulated through editing and digital effects to bring it up to the same quality level, as long as you are working with the raw captured file (uncompressed)...

The biggest problem we have with the "not so good" camera we are using is that it focuses like ****e. No amount of post processing is going to fix that. Much of the color correction and exposure issues can be taken care of, but I was too lazy to fix all that in this clip.

does fc have a sharpen tool?

i know in premier pro there is a trick to that where you run a blur effect, hit it with color correction, and then apply the sharpen to it and the shot will come out a little soft but still better than the original...

for a helmet cam setup, who cares. The optics of the camera are being bypassed and your only using the thing as a tape recorder. Not to mention the quality of the helmet cams are so crappy, I would just use the lightest cheapest camera you can find.

Hey P-Dawg, whats your week lookin' like next week? I think I'm going to go ahead and lay some glass on the superjet. You really should come down. Even if we just reinforce the sides, then we can at least get you rolling.
