Need Private Water for Freestyle Practice

what a bunch of assmunches! the water cops around here are entertained by standup freestylers and will also sometimes throw a wake and wave them on for some air.

how is it reckless riding when youre surrounded by nobody or nothing? the watercops around here say we can pretty much do what we want as long as we are of age, wearing the jackets , not (too) intoxicated and AWAY FROM OTHERS.

it sounds like your neighbor is up the DNRs ass big time. tough situation.

That pretty much sums up my (limited) experience locally.

If a tree falls in the woods and nobody is there to hear it, did it make any noise??? Same thing!!!!!!!!!! If nobody is around when your riding, is it still reckless............

We were able to get in touch with the head DNR guy and he said bascially if he sees us do anything but ride in a straight line he's going to consider it "wreckless riding". Guess all freestyle tricks just happen by coinsidence.
Also tried to negotiate a specific time and place for practicing during the day thats out of the way and convinient, havent been able to get that either....

I held off on posting but I figured thats how it would turn out. They Basically have you by the balls. The type of riding we do is up for interpritation on whether its Illegal or not. So the guy may be singling you out but that dosnt change the fact that freestyle could be considered illegal.The other problem with private lakes like Spivey etc. is the same problem you have now, the homeowners. Then there is the private pond option which could even become an EPA issue even though its on private land.I'm sure theres some law saying bodys of water have to be a certain size to use powerboats public or private to keep the particulte concentrations down in the runoff.I'm not a lawyer so check into it. I think your best option is to ride the larger lakes like Lanier or Allatoona where you just get lost in the crowd. I know the distance sucks and the traffic on those lakes can make practicing flatwater difficult but if you get in a cove in the morning or evening they arn't that choppy. I know it sucks for you man and I think the guys a complete dick but in they eyes of the law you don't have alot of options.:banghead:

It seems like you have tried to work this out and are getting screwed. When all else fails, get even. Swim up at night and put some clear packing tape over the water intakes for his boat motor. It won't help you in your riding but it will bring a smile to your face.

P.S. I would never do anything like this but this guy seems like a real jerk.

allatoona might be your best bet. near little river we use to set up a bouy course and as long we pretty much stayed on the river side they never said anything to us. ofcours cuz of idiots they shut down the park we used, but i doubt they'd care about freestyle over in that area.

this is just one of the many things that is keeping our sport down... IMO, it's kinda like sportbike guys... they have to go to private property or rent a venue to practice legally... other than that it's illegal to do what they do.. Your situation is not looking to good...

this is the exact same thing that is happening at the lake we ride at, except there is no one complaining and mostlye everyone loves watching us. i think we may be winnning the fight though!

I feel so blessed to have Daytona for my riding spot... People LOVE motorsports around here and welcome that type of recreation... Everything is loud here, Bikes, race cars, people, waves... It just fits right in w/ what goes on. I moved here because I wanted to be in an area where I could do my sport when I wanted, also have multiple riding areas in case of problems. It seems like your area is a more family type of enviroment w/ people that don't want to be around what I decribed above... That is the problem, these people have paid 100's of thousands of dollars to have there little spot on a lake and to them you are just the dumb kid running around in the lake being unsafe... You are a very easy target for them. Sorry to hear they won't even have dialog w/ ya...

Sorry to hear it, man. We are having the same problem in Va Beach. Operating a watercraft within 100yds of shore is illegal period (except this one military base about 12mi from the nearest launch point). Even if we had an offshore break we've been warned that putting ourselves or our skis in "danger" is still wreckless. I don't know about your DNR, but the VBPD has us on misdemeaners (and $150+) when and if we get ticketed. I know this doesn't help you much I just had to add to the rant :rant:

like autumn said, you should just come up to michigan. hell i would even let you ride in my pond. its plenty big enough to do anything you want. oo and bring a really big water heater with you because the winter is a bitch up here.

LOL...these are all great ideas, i may need some help carrying them out hehe...so far we've gotten in touch with a very veryyyy wealthy landowner who lives near the lake and has not 1 but 2 lakes on his estate and likes to throw some big parties there, all of which im sure i could be of some form of entertainment to..still got my eye out tho..

Saki, giving him a call tonight, dont matter how far of a drive it is itll be better than having a ticket and record on the water (in case of legal issues)..

and to everyone else id encourage to contact the AWA to see how we could all get something worked out for us competitors and riders alike, like norcal said we may actually be getting somewhere with this!
