My first sj got a few questions

Hey guys i just picked up my first sj. Its a 99 running with msd igniton msd enhancer, r@d head , dual 44 mikinis, wet wolf cone, and a skat track swirl prop? Im not to sure on the prop but my question is where should i set my carbs? Low speed / high speed? How many turns out should they be for a good starting point? Also the cooling where does the little 1/8 outlet on the bottom of the pipe manifold go to ? Does it t into the head line which goes out to the pisser?

Thanks guys cant wait to get these things straighted out so i can go ride:wavey:

congratulations alex very cool a rn , that 1/8 line went to stock head you wont need it since you have aftermarket head the screw should be around 1 turn out, i have factory manual on disc that i can send you if you want it

start with both screws at 1.5 turns out and begin to work your way in on the bottom (you must tune your ski.... lots of reading info on here about how to do it...) then after your bottom is tuned then work on the top.... that is all assuming your carbs are setup right with the proper jetting and popoff... depending on where you live (since you didnt put that in your profile...) someone on here may be able to help you out. 1.5 turns on low and high is a good safe starting point though to begin tuning...

Thanks alot guys, i guess i should update my profile aswell if i am going to be posting more. I live just outside of toronto in ontario canada. Thanks cattle dog the manual would be great. Mabe you could send it by email in one large file? My last question for now is if the front 1/8 line is blocked what should i do with the other 1/8 inlet that is at the bottom of the exhaust manifold it is in the same location as the waterfrom the jet inlet but 90 degrees on the opposite side.

Thanks for the help guys

Where the red line is there is a 1/8 inlet fitting facing the rear of the ski when installed. It is right at the bottom of the bend? Any ideas? It is about 90 degrees from the cooling line

If you are running the stock head and exhaust--> I think the piece you are referring to may be the little tee that splits the water from the pump to cool the pipe, cylinder, and head.... I dont think any of this can be blocked off... make SURE you are cooling all your stuff!

does that connect the headpipe (the C shape exhaust part) to the manifold with the hose # 24? someone should be able to confirm... been a while since I took my stock exhaust off...

I am running the stock exhaust and a r @ d head. I dont think it is a t but it is a fitting built right into the stock pipe. Any ideas where to get a cooling diagram? How i understand it is the water goes into the bottom of the exhaust manifold which fills up the head. The water then goes from the manifold up into the exhaust and cools it? Then a line from the head runs to the pisser. Does this sound right?

so there are 2 nipples on that elbow? or when you draw that red line are you really referring to part number 11?

By looking at the diagram it looks to me that the water comes from the pump to the bottom of the manifold thru hose number 24 then travels thru hose 22 to the T... then from the straight part of the T it goes to the head through hose number 19... and from the 90 degree part of the T it goes to the pisser through hose 22...

SOMEBODY MUST BE ABLE TO CONFIRM THIS.....

on that large exhaust elbow piece--> is there a fitting for the hose going to that T that is for a 3/8" inside diameter hose? and the little red line you drew is for a 1/8" inside diameter hose?

Sorry for the ********ty drawing but hopefully youll understand. The two orange fittings are the regualur 3/8 water inlets/outlets. The one on the exhaust elbow piece is the water in from the jet. The one on the head is the water out to the pisser. The pink fittings are 1/8, the one front one i was told to block it. From looking at the diagram of the stock exhaust i think i am suppose to T the 1/8 fitting at the bottom of the exhaust elbow to the line running from the pisser to the head?

Hopefully the diagram will help

If I am not mistaken, those to fittings need to have a hose running from one to the other, I just cannot remember the routing of that one line, been along time since I have worked on a stock exhaust.

next question, why do you think you need to fool with the carbs?

I think the flow goes like this.... Maybe it has been answered already but I like to color. Also there is a little 1/8" (about 6" long) hose that comes off of the stock exhaust (the piece that says YAMAHA) and connects to the STOCK head that you dont have anymore.

please take a couple pictures of your setup so we can see it with our own eyes.... if I had to guess I would say that you will be running a 1/8" id line from your pipe down there to the little other 1/8" fitting on the top of the exhaust... I think this will cool your waterbox hose?????? someone confirm????

Then you will run a 3/8" id line from the pump to the bottom of the manifold, then you will run another line from the 3/8" fitting on the bottom of the elbow piece to the head.... right in the middle of that line you will put a T fitting.... on that T fitting you will put another line that will go out to your pisser...

I am pretty sure this is what you will do and pretty sure that that 1/8" fitting there is to take the place of the 1/8" fitting on the head which you no longer have... maybe the previous owner didnt want to drill into the nice aftermarket head and wanted to instead just drill a hole in the stock pipe and connect?? my only guess...

I dont think you will block the front fitting... the fitting people usually block is the one on top of the stock head... but you arent using the stock head...

This is spot on for stock water routing...if you have two 3/8 barb fittings on the head, pull the one out on the front of the motor and replace it with one that is 1/8...I may actually have a spare you can have if you don't have one. Than just run that 1/8 line from the head to the chamber and call it a day...as stated, that lines sole purpose is to supply cooling to the stinger and into the waterbox.
