My first ride since Daytona

I knew I should have just stayed home yesterday... 1st - started off getting a 14 mph over speeding ticket... then, we decide to finally hit the lake after a long time of waiting for the ice to clear.

air temp - 81 degrees
water temp - 45 degrees

ride was good for about 20 minutes... then - well, see for yourself.

the sleeves are still perfect - cross hatching and all... the pistons/rings are still good, not one mark or scuff on either the pistons or sleeves. just the outside of the cylinder cracked. Crank is still solid, no play at all... not really sure what caused this????

what sucks - it was a nice ported cylinder - now a paperweight.

anyone got a ported 61x cylinder? LOL

what sucked even more was getting towed in by an SXR - holy crap was it cold being in the water from a 1/4 mile out.

Was it water left in the cylinder all winter or just a freak occurrence? A lot of hours on that motor?

i blew the water out really good, like i do every year. the cylinder is OEM from 2001 with original bore - was ported 3 years ago but has a lot of hours (hard hours) on it since 2001. I think just a freak occurance/wore out.

like i said, it ran really good for about 20 minutes then, bam...

1 they dont weld cyl
2 its ported
3 sbt is junk

That sucks, I have a mint 62T cyl with pistons if you need something to get you by.

ADA non girdled head and B-pipe - ran that set up for about 4 years with no issues.

I pulled the cases apart today too... all good... i figured it would be a good time to installl new crank seals and all new gaskets LOL

yeah, i have dual cooling on that ski, but it's been set up like that since 2002 without any trouble. i've actual run in colder water.

nope, not on that motor, been using a non-girdled ADA for several years without an issue... until now that is.

Can't you pop the sleeves out and use them in another cylinder? With some clean up porting ?

What really sucks is that fact that it was my SXR that had to tow his arse in. What kind of retards go out for the first ride of the season without a tow rope. My shoulder blade is killing me right now. LOL Then when we get to shore and are numb, Frosty says hey wait a minute, I had a tow rope in here all the time!
