Moved Battery to the middle

I got a new kart tank a week or so ago and was trying to figure out how to strap it down. I ended up rigging something to make the battery w/ stock box work in the middle, right in front of the flywheel. I know XFT makes a kit, but I paid nothing for this. I just took some 6mm threaded rod and stuck it in some of the holes that were free by moving the battery. The left rear on where the battery box bolted, and the one on the left side where the gas tank strap used to be.

Under the battery box, I cut some rubber stuff to make it sit evenly on the bottom, and I shot 2 sheet metal screws into the holes where that rubber thing the stock gas tank leans up against used to go. I then put the battery in, and put a piece of aluminum channel I found laying around across the top on the threaded rod and bolted it down. I am going to add some anti seize to it all, and double nut it, but it it very strong and isn't going anywhere. Hopefully this will help center the weight, because my ski leaned to the right real bad.

Anyways, here are the pics:

Maybe you could build that area up under the tray with some epoxy glass and filler and do away with that channel. If you want to bring it over again we could figure something out.

Sounds like a good idea. I'm going to ride w/ it like this until it gets too cold, but after that we could do it. Probably going to be making my hood into a lowered hood and building a nosepiece, so whenever I do that we can try it.

cart tank its called filling the oem halfway if you are obsessed about weight get a smaller battery

I didn't get it to save weight, I got it because I was tired of fuel sloshing and cutting the ski off when it turned sideways. I never filled the stock past halfway, so it was a problem. This post was not about the tank anyways, I centered the weight of the ski better by moving the battery.

nice

how long do you turn for
do you have an oem fuel filter that hold 2 oz of fuel.
if it cuts out go in and get more 3.50$ gas
the center of gravity is better on a oem not cart
how long will it last full ?

It doesn't cut off on turns, but when I fall off the side while holding on pulling it sideways when the tank is low. I didn't ever fill the stock tank up because it adds a ton of weight, gas it about 7lbs gallon, so filling this tank up vs. the stocker will save more than 15lbs alone. That tank will last a long time on my motor, and I live on a lake, so refilling is not a big deal, but there is no way I use 2 1/2 gallons on one ride, maybe half that. I didn't get the cart tank to do anything with the center of gravity, that is why I moved the 16lb battery from the right to the middle.

nice work,, iv been trying to center my battery like that hever had anything hold solid. let us know how long that last. I'v been thinking about cutting into teh bulkhead like WDK's battery mount.

PS: who let negative nancy out? :Banane36:

As long as the spots the threaded rod is screwed down in on the hull hold up, it won't go anywhere That battery is very strong, now if it strips the threading out of those holes, thats another story:thumbsdown:. I will take it out in the morning and beat on it and see how it holds up. I think it should hold up fine though, considering the threaded rod is screwed into the same holes that the battery was originally in, and the one that the stock gas tanks strap hooked to.

Took the ski out today, and it floats almost perfectly level now. Was a whole new experience with the waterdawg steering system i just put on it. The battery stayed put just fine, I don't see any problems from this, but who knows. I may have just not beat on it hard enough yet, but unless it strips the threading out of the holes the threaded rod is in it isn't going anywhere. I really like this new set up, I didn't even use half a tankful from the kart tank today (rode ~40 minutes). My motor was running funny after spilling some gas in the bilge though. The idle would run normal intermittently, but would all of a sudden take off.

It sounds like you have a carb issue instead of a fuel problem. Your ski will run close to a minute with just the gas in the carb alone. Try running the ski then shutting the fuel valve off. The ski won't die instantly it runs for awhile and you said that spilled fuel in teh bilge made it run funny..... You can fill mine full and it doesn't effect it enough that you notice.

I disagree completely. A Kart tank works much better when you have lower fuel amounts. My ski runs perfect all the way untill it runs out of fuel with a Kart tank.... not the case for a stock tank.

Comparing the weight (empty) of a stock tank, compared to a kart tank you are saving 3-4lbs.

All weight savings add up.

Now just get a light weight battery, and a X-metal waterbox, you will notice a huge difference in handling.

Nice set-up hermanns! I think I will try that tank for my current build... looks like it straps in better then my current Kart setup.

Did you put a second pickup in the gas cap?

Looks like the gas cap is the vent on the web page, And then single pickup and return.
