It's not a state law per se but a "surf law"
Spend some time in the surf and you will find out real quick what tow loops are for!
Maybe you guys find it fun dicking around trying to thread your tow line thru that 1" hole while worrying about the next huge wave that's gonna be crashing upon you and turning the situation from one dead ski to two tumbling in the break but most of us who have been there done that do not - hence tow loops on both ends.
If you're dead in the water you need to have your line secured to your bow and hand up so when your "savior" comes around it should be a 2 second ordeal - snap and go and become the "dope on a rope" and get out of the break.
Keep in mind it is "known" within the circles of who constantly breaks down and for what reasons and who reciprocates with towing duties and "usually" the ones with no stern tow loop doesn't tow anyone so the favor "usually" gets returned.
Mind you things are different for our flat water brethren as you can take your time to secure a tow line and BS some.
But to answer your question Felix -
For this type of event in such a confined area along with the water depth - one could just walk their ski to shore!!!

Get your foot caught in the loop???? You have a better change of getting crabs off the toilet seat at the Makai!! lol

I ride surf all the time and never had an issue. I guess knowing how to tie a know has its advantages. Also, I have towed many people by grabing their front tow loop.

I didn't run them this year because the conditions were so mild. I did both last year and at Jersey because the conditions warranted it.

It takes less then 2 seconds to clip a "D" ring to the loop, it will take you at least 15 seconds min to thread and tie a not. You do not have that kind of time in the surf.

If you rip your nose off and the ski is DOA, you need a way to tow it, same situation to have one on the rear. 2 seconds and it is under tow.

did anyone see people hit bottom hard? i could not get over how shallow it was in spots..... saw a guy munch it doing a barrel roll and he stood up and the water was at his waist........

I saw the guy that did that barrel roll you were talking about~ funny part was he walked back to his ski !!
I came out of my footholds on a roll with one hand on the grip and the side of my ski hit the bottom hard..... Was surprised the motor was where it belonged when I got back in for a visual check.

I bailed a few times and crunched my knees off my chest on the bottom. I heard the ski rocket the bottom too, but no damage. :chairfall:
Good waves broke in 3-6ft of water with the occasional deep water set.
