I'm replacing stock with RAD lightweight..., Use blue Loctite on the Flywheel Bolt? Yes or no? Just leave dry?

The reason I ask is cuz there was an orange looking substance on the bolt when I removed it. Also Loctite is used on mostly all bolts.

I do the same as mark 44 and have never had one come loose...........alum flywheels though can be tricky, I'd do exactly as RAD instructs

Yep go by RAD instructions. On stock flywheel I also put anti seize on the crank end and key before installing the flywheel.

70 LBS is about right. Or two trusty braps from my impact.:bigok:

I may be wrong but that may be some sort of anti-galling(sp) compound from the factory.
I'm with Nick, no anti seize on anything that touches salt water (ie intake grate bolts, rideplate bolts etc)

Loctite should not be necessary for long or high tension bolts. There is no place on a watercraft that gets hot enough for antisieze. Every bolt should be sealed at the head and threads unless its stainless on stainless. Yamaha used a teflon pipe sealant and Kawasaki coats most of their bolts with a soft green sealant. I do use some marine grease on flywheel bolts with a little less torque than I would a dry bolt. This keeps water out and provides the same tension. As far as warercraft go, Loctite is just insurance for careless assymbly.

we torque the kawi alum flwheels to 100 fts lbs. no loctie.

i heat cylce it, and re-torque it. i then re-torque after 5, and 10 hrs run time. you can fit a 3/8 drive deep well 9/16, or 14mm socket in the hole where the oil pump goes.

this has been fool proof for us, no problems.

happy new year!

I don't think that most people understand how antisieze affects the torque of a bolt.
