Is this what a blown/leaky crank seal looks like?

This motor has been run about 5 times, first time great. Rest...:bs2:

The stator was new when it was installed, and the whole area on the motor side was clean....

Does this look to you guys like the seal went?

The pics came from my phone...so I hope you can see what I am talking about.

And for the record, if it is leaky it is 100% my fault. I am a horrible mechanic and becuase of that I can probably count the number of times my ski has been 100% on my left hand.

yes the cases are ported why do you ask? there is epoxy to the left of the seal.

I think I am going to clean it up and try it one more time and see what happens...

Did you apply grease to the seal cups where they contact the crank? If not you can easily burn a seal and it will cause an air leak. The picture kind of looks like it might be leaking to the left of the seal from between the crankcase halves. What kind of gasket material did you use to seal the case halves?? I had bad luck with Yamabond 4 and switched to Threebond 1211.

Cuz I just had to dremel out all my old epoxy and alumaweld my cases. There was a hairline crack in my old epoxy and it was leaking into my flywheel area.

Ross,
I just blew that same seal, but it was because my front crank bearing blew... my fault. I knew it was shady. Took out half my engine.

It looks like the seal is blown, unless your flywheel cover is just leaking. Something is leaking. I would probably pull your head and check things out just in case. If I would have immediately shut off my ski, I probably wouldn't be boring and putting a new top end in right now. :cool2:

Good luck and may the wave gods be with you.

Thanks for the answers guys. I am 100% sure the motor was assembeled well and unfortunatley I did suck a lot of water on the first ride with it. However the top end looks fine and everything is free. I will put this back together today and try it out once more tomorrow. I did put a bit of grease on the starter and bendix when I put that together, so maybe that is what I am seeing. I don't know...

Just an update...it is still fuggered. I'm puling everything out tomorrow and replacing with complete different motor and electronics.

This is such a shame cause the one time this motor ran right it was INCREDIBLE and I am not really sure what I did to ******** it up, but it looks like I have. A complete electrical system later, save for the stator which was new, and I am still at a loss.
