I rode it this weekend, It ran great. I know I need to check the reeds, but I don't want to. If they are shot I might have anger issues. I just patched a wall in the gargae from the last time! It seems a broken torque wrench may have slipped outta my hand before I returned it to Home Depot. Thank you Husky.

:haha: I know that feeling. Sometime's I create more work for myself that way.

It seems that all the wrenches (or any other tools/parts) that slip out of my hand end up in the lake, ending any chance of returning them...

If it runs great, the reeds are fine. Broken reed petals, even just one, are very noticable.

I had a backfire last week - sounded like a bomb went off. I was sure I had blown something up. I had the MSD white wires switched so the motor pumped fuel into the exhaust and sparked when I let off the starter button.

Fortunately everything is still in tact, except the cylinders that I fried later that day for a completely different reason.

I'm having a backfire problem now too. Just had a crack in an r&d exhaust manifold welded (it ran okay when I took it off), waited about three weeks, and then put her back together. I've tried starting it a couple times. The three times it did anything, it backfired. Fresh spark plugs, not 100% sure on the gas that's in there. I hear yall on checking the reeds :banghead: but what are some causes of back firing?

The guy I got my SJ from had a kawi 750 SX in his garage, and I looked at it just to see it (standups are RARE where I live), and I noticed a huge patch on the left side motor compartment. I asked him about it, he said it had backfired when he had sprayed a LOAD OF ETHER in it and it ignited. His water box blew up and the corner of it blasted a hole in the ski.

I made damn sure he never did something that stupid to the SJ. Ether as starting agent... brilliant, no lube.

When I went to start my Blaster (prob 8 mo ago), I closed the hatch, hit the button, and BOOM. Samr thing, hood poped up, smoke everywhere. Actually blew the waterbox apart at the seam. Blaster box is fiberglass. You are lucky nothing else went wrong.

Are you ridding tomorrow (Sat)?

My buddy's blaster did the exact same thing, except blew at the seam and every where else, there were little pieces of water box everywhere.

heres my backfire fom a blaster 1 .it almost took crammits shoulder off . heres a few pics right after total loss was hooked up and gas had leaked in to cases .BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM. took almost an hour to clean the mess .

I didn't put any ether or lube in my jugs. What else causes backfires? I just sold and shipped my spare waterbox yesterday, I don't want to have order another one...

ive had 2-3 backfires..one cost me a waterbox....split it from seam to seam.......

best I can backtrack...the one that blew the box was from a crack in my bpipe chamber...unburned fuel just hanging out in the pipe

second one was from standing it up on end, then righting and starting it almost immediately......

i think if you flip a ski on end for a minute or 2 it wont matter, but if it sits like that for awhile for repairs etc. then fuel leaks and drips....

Okay... so check reed petals and timing and if it happens again then cdi? Can backfires be caused by priming too much fuel? What about a lean mixture of fuel or too low of an octane? The last time I ran it I had to borrow some mystery fuel to flush it...

obviously ignited on exhaust side, so reeds should be fine, had it backfired on intake side :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :frown: it would have been costly to say the least. Glad it was a quick fix for ya. I bet you near sh-t yourself, wish I could have seen it LOL.

Well, I had a hole in a carb diaphram, a worn out brand new spigot mount... oh, and I was only getting spark as I let off the start button. Replaced MSD with stock CDI and she fires right up :Banane01:

funny to read this post right now .. I was just checking in on my way out to the garage RIGHT NOW to install the waterbox Groaty just sent me , bought a 93 750sx that had a backfire included were both halfs of the backfired waterbox .. split at the seems .. groaty sent me the alluminum one to replace it ,, have a coffmans pipe on it now with no waterbox going back to stock .. with this ski .. too loud like this ... but maybe i better also check the stock reeds ???

Blew up my waterbox when I tried Advent for the first time, my ears are still ringing. I took it out and send it back and Greg sent me a new one but it is still sitting on the kitchen counter.
