Oh. Well... No argument there.

Pointless to squeeze that much outta a 550, IMO. Better to slap in a 750.

a 650 or 750 would be fine, that hull will mostly not know the difference between the two. I think it's a good idea to go to a larger pump if you're going to drop in that much hp.

you're going to spend more on a superjet than you will a 550 due to the difference in the cost of parts, let alone the cost of the ski itself.

I dunno about that.

All the 550 parts I have seen were comparable in price to the SJ parts I've seen.

Well, actually the SJ pipes are more. So are the ride plates. The starter's lower though.

actually, aftermarket 550 parts are well cheaper and easier to attain than newer skis. there's just more of them around because they've been around longer.

besides, who give a single solitary crap about what huey lewis said for christs sake.
does he even ride?

not to mention the fact that ANY ski you decide to setup for the surf is going to cost you, regardless. you're going to spend more on a superjet than you will a 550 due to the difference in the cost of parts, let alone the cost of the ski itself.

i have to disagree with you on prices.

you can get a square with a 701 for less than 1500 and some come with pipes for that price.

get a 550, then buy a complete 750 including ebox, a different pump, aftermarket parts to make every thing work in the 550 hull. now you have more money and time in the 550.

not worth in in my opinion.

Well to answer your sj question it depends on what you wanna spend. I bought a nice sn with 701, pipe, milled head, scat impeller, aftermarket ride and grate, nice turf job, umi bars, and bilge pump for $1400. If you have the money get a rn cause they are nicer looking but its gonna cost you over 2 grand unless you stumble on a deal. Otherwise get a square if your on a budget. I dont think squares are ugly, im not racist.

U buying that thing to ride it, right? So ride it, not work on it.

Wrenching is for the winter. Winter is almost over.

if you want a ski you don't want to spend a bunch of money on, or work on, you'd better plan on not getting one, because those types don't exist, out of completely stock form. even stock ski will require wrenching from time to time. any stock ski is going to be reliable. and when you go about hoppin' it up, regardless of what ski it is, you had better learn to work on it, because you will be paying someone else to do it, otherwise.

I think my point was missed...

That video proves you should get the Superjet or an SXR...

A bone stock SXR would jump twice as high on those nice waves. You can see that its just not hooking up. Get a square with a bpipe and you'll be happy.

Better yet, sell the Mustang, get a smaller car or a little pickup and get a ready to rip used RN freestyle ski ready to go for about 4Gs.

The mustang stays, its too much fun when im not in the water :)

People will always say that the ski is older than you.
I always get " do they still make those things".
Its not like there is alot of poeple on that little lake Jackson.

Yeah but when they are pretty much right is when i get sad.

I was planning on a 3k max for a RN but id much rather stay at 2k or less for a stock or close rn or good sn. i suppose ill start shopping but i never see them for sale around here.

I have 91 sj that I wish sometimes had more power but that does not hold you back in the surf.A great ski for the surf for less money.Good luck!

wasnt this a superjet discussion?

:theyareontome:

this conversation makes me feel the same way as I did while watching supercouch johnny wash and flush his RXT at daytona for 45 minutes straight

get a superjet, ANY superjet...sell the 550 and never look back
