Use ppg epoxy dp-40 primer and top coat it with acrylic enamel or basecoat clearcoat you can't go wrong. I have not had a problem with gas or anything probably got 5 ski's done this way.

I bought my ski with the engine comp. painted, and it looked almost identical to what motorhead used on his. Mine is holding up good; and my ski is a '92 Sn, so who knows how long its been there. definately do it right though

My fx1's gel coat is flaking in the engine compartment. I thought about getting the color you can mix with epoxy resin and applying that with a brush. Anyone tried this?? Or is there something else that would work better than epoxy resin, like a gel coat??

i was thinking about using garage floor paint anyone try that ?

garage floor paint sucks... we do car audio here at the shop and it gets pulled up just from walking on it/ driving on it. i cant even imagine having toxic solvents washing around on top of it. dont bother. for some reason it just doesent hold up even though it is GARAGE FLOOR PAINT...

Really - i have it in my basement (the epoxy 2 part stuff) i have spilled acetone on it and pulled tools over it and stuff its held up amazing. I have to agree though nothing handles hot tires that well

i should take a pic of the shop here... i did 2 part epoxy paint with flakes... in the 3 bays there is a set of wheel lines in all three from driving cars in and out... all less then 5mph.. anyways...

has anyone thought of say Brake Caliper paint? it holds up to both heat and Chemicals.

epoxy sealer and urethane clear coat is the best way that is what i will be doing to mine some idiot sprayed something in my engine compartment and its flaking off the best way to prep this is to sand blast it and hand/palm sand with 80-150 grit here is a link to my buildhttp://www.x-h2o.com/threads/45314 :Banane57:

that looks amazing... better than brand new... how did you prep the inside? just sanded everything? seems like a pain in the butt
use a maroon scotchbrite by hand quick and easy, then wipe it out with lacquer thinner just because lacquer is fast drying and no film left behind, the trick truly is the ppg dp-40 epoxy primer. I have probably sprayed 200 gallon's of that stuff over the past 20 year's and it is amazing. the inside of that ski in the pic still look's the same of course theres a little bildge slime in it but wipes right out no flakes though.
Good Luck.

I used spray truck bed lining. Held up in most spots, but I did no prep. It peeled right by the gas tank. That is the only spot, though.

i think dyed resin is the best option for engine cfompartments. ive gone the paint and the dye route and will dye from now on. it cleans up nicely and cant chip or peel like paint. i will post some pics of mine when i get home.

we have gel coated a couple (brush on) and they look great at first but then peel after a season or so..

I'd go black laquer, or black epoxy paint to keep it fuel proof...

here is wavedemons boat back when it was fresh..before and after

How did you apply? I think this is the route I wanna go. They have some great colors on uscomposites. I think the Grey would be great, its not too dark and it wouldnt look nasty all the time.

I used the same thing Motorheads5 did and it's been bullet proof for me as well.
