I am bored so if you are interested in the Great Lakes at all...

1. The 5 Great Lakes contain the largest Lake in the world (by surface area) and have 6 quadrillion gallons of fresh water; one-fifth of the worlds fresh water and 95 percent of the US supply.

2. The Great Lakes have more coastline (10,900 miles) than the East and West Coasts of the United States combined. The State of Michigan has more coastline than Florida or California.

3. Water temperatures vary from frozen solid to 80 degrees on southern Lake Erie.

4. Waves vary from flat as glass to swells in excess of 25 feet. Storms on the Lakes have sunken many super tankers. Lake Conditions can change in a matter of minutes.

5. You cannot see across any of the Great Lakes due to the curve of the Earth. .

6. The great lakes have coastlines on 8 states and two provinces. 4 of the five great lakes border Canada and the United States.

7. There are over 35,000 Islands on the Great Lakes.

8. Niagara Falls dumps approximately 100,000 cubic feet of water per second from Lake Erie into Lake Ontario.

9. All five Great Lakes are connected to each other and the Atlantic Ocean.

10. Major cities on the Great Lakes include: Chicago, Buffalo, Detroit, Cleveland, Toronto, Duluth, Toledo, Green Bay and Milwaukee.

OK, nerd mode off.

Hmm...

Lake Baikal is the deepest and oldest lake in the world as well as the largest (by volume) freshwater lake. It contains over 20% of the world's liquid fresh surface water and more than 90% of Russia's liquid fresh surface water.

i think it means if you combine all the great lakes, not just one individually. Nice facts dj! wish the waves we get were spaced farther apart
Yup...
Lake Baikal is the largest freshwater lake on Earth containing 23,000 cubic kilometers of water, or roughly 20 percent of the world's total surface fresh water. It contains as much fresh water as the Great Lakes of North America combined. At over 1,600 meters (5250 feet), it is the deepest lake in the world, and at perhaps more than 25 million years old, the oldest as well. The water of Lake Baikal is so fresh that calcium carbonate does not survive in the fossil record. Despite the lake's great depth , its water is well-oxygenated throughout creating unique biological habitats

The lake is so beautiful!.. and so friggin cold, I could not swim in it for more than a minute at a time. lol

our great lake also has one of the fastest turn over rates for water, since we have such a small amount of water
it turns over like every 2 yrs.
makes it a easy place to get polluted but also cleans up much faster if the polution ever stops

D.J. you were going to send me a dvd of the time we went to the Niagara River .I have filmed and taken many photos but have yet to get any pics of myself in there. You might have some. After the last experiance I don,t know if I will be going back.
