firstboat/surfboat redux

unfortunately my brother did not really get into ridin. he enjoys it now and again, but not really his thing. so i the boat we built needs some work.
here's the first build.

i really screwed up on the pole/bracket/hood hook setup. i should have done more research, instead i just went a pulled a hack job. first off, the hood didnt sit right and let tons of water in when a wave crashed over the nose. second, using a stock height rn bracket was stupid, it raised the pole mounting position and took away the squares best attribute. third, it doesnt have a spring. if its gonna be my backup/beater/river/wife/buddy boat, its needs a spring...

so after all that work, i tore it apart and need to put the sn bracket back on. i got a -2 ac pole awhile back and a spring is on the way from blowsion.

so my question is can i just fill the holes with 404 and redrill the old ones or would it be too weak? i already have reinforced the bracket area when we did it originally with a layer or too of glass. should i add more?

well i i just filled in the holes, hopefully they will be strong enough.

i was lining up the handpole and there seams to be a really big gap between the pole and bracket..

does it look too big? do i need new bushings?

I used a stock height RN bracket on my SN build... although i have only ridden like 3 times, it didn't seem to handle too bad.

got the square bracket back on, handpole blowsion spring installed- just waiting for a chinpad.

did the hood let in a ton of water b/c the hood hooks were installed in the wrong position??? or was it something else...

I ask b/c i noticed the front hood seal lip area on the hull of my square sags/droops down. I have a gap in the front also.

Don't know what I'm gonna do to seal it up. I guess some extra weather stripping on the hood or something.

yup. i put the hooks in the wrong spot.but with the stock height rn bracket, the hood would hit it when i tried to close the gap.

extra weather weather stripping would probably have worked....but how i had it setup tons of water woulf flood in when cashing through a wave or whitewater....maybe with a lowered bracket you can fix it right

i understand what your problem was.... i did NOT use the stock backing plates for a RN pole... I bolted the hood hooks independently of the pole bracket.

My problem is completely different, both the hood and hull are warped...

i think its a 91. hull and hood are warped like all the others

i forgot that i had used the rn backing plates to mount he hooks, i think you warned me against that when i did it...

oh well,i learned a lesson and she's bitchin now!

thats actually a good hood..it stays fairly dry..it just needs a little repair in the corner
