will chrome adhere to aluminum? how much weight is it going to add?

I think they copper coat it first so the chrome will stick. General rule of thumb used to be you can't chrome aluminum, or anodize steel, but they're always figuring out ways around things nowadays.

Im with you Roo, everything looks better when all you have to do is take a damp cloth to it to clean the parts.
I did my pipe and manifold last year.

For sure - he needs to add that and my old two cars on there!

I've posted mine a bunch of times, but here it is again. Going on two years since I got it done and still looks good. Doesn't have the luster of when I first got it done, but still looks great.

Pic of when I got it back from the coating place. Ceramic coating, color is called stainless steel.

they have been chroming aluminum for years (think wheels)... copper first with a couple rounds of nickel plating for the best finish.
