Dead Battery Issues

My SXR is killing batteries when it is sitting in the garage. It works fine for a whole day of riding, but if I let it sit a few days, battery is dead. I tried 3 batteries (2 were brand new). If I charge it before I go out, it is fine.

I have a Rulemate floatswitch Bilge, but it is not running...How can I tell if something is drawing off of the battery?

you can tell something is drawing off of the battery because it keeps dieing on you.

pull the fuse from the bilge pump and see if it stays charged.

Grab a volt meter.

Disconnect the positive terminal on the battery.

Connect 1 wire of the volt meter to the positive wire and the other wire of the meter to the positive terminal.

If you read a voltage, you have a closed circuit and something in the ski is on and pulling voltage.

Change you volt meter to Amps and you can measure how much current is being pulled.

while everything is shut off take the positive lead off the battery and rub it against the positive post on the battery, if there is any arcing (look closely) whatsoever, something is drawing off the battery. This is not as scientific as using a fluke, but it's fast.

DJ is your CDI still stock? Also your kill switch could be leaking.

Thanks, getting my dad's electrical meter tomorrow.

I just put on an entire 2006 electrical box and stator. (Completely new)

CDI is stock.

If the bilge has an automatic feature it will draw down your battery. Perhaps a bullit connector to the pos lead to unhook it when in storage.

I don't think float switch bilges normally draw current when not in use

Eh....the correct way to determine actual current draw:

Disconnect either positive or negative cable from the battery.
Set your volt meter to current mode.
Connect one lead to the empty battery terminal
Connect the other lead to the cable you took off.
Anything other than zero is too much. (a few mA's are probably okay)

make sure your charging coil is working. im not getting a charge and it left me and coung stranded today!

They don't, but the kind that come on for X number of seconds every X number of seconds do. Ex: Every 90 seconds, it comes on for 15 seconds whether it floats on or not.

The bilge doesn't kick on periodically. Only when there is 2 inches of water in the hull. (Its got a mini ping pong ball that floats and turns it on) Its either on and pumping water, or it's off. It never runs without water.

I swapped electrical systems because my brand new starter from Marshmallow was bad. (It was free, so whatever.)

Ill check it tomorrown night.

put a fuse on the wire going to the bilge / battery and just pull it out when you are not using it.

autozone has the waterproof fuse cover (thing a ma jing) for like 2 bucks

im having the same problem and i have no bilge pump...it charges fine when i ride it but it dosnt hold a charge for more then 4days in the garage..ive tried two batteries as well
