Dead Battery Issues

Sounds like you checked out any shorts with the bilge pump, that was my first choice to look at.
I would now say you most likely have a bad voltage regulator/rectifier.
When they do go bad, one of the symptoms is a slow battery drain killing off the voltage through a bad Zener diode in the unit, (regulators have several in them) this in turn will cause a back flow of positive voltage to ground shorting the battery slowly over time when sitting idle and not using ski.

Hey Korn,

just for what its worth, ive never seen an increase in voltage on a cheap meter when running or revving the ski either, and my skis are charging.

dont condemn the charging system soley on the fact that you dont "see" it on a meter when running...

The bilge is not the problem. I hooked it up with and without the bilge and both are drawing .000002 amps. It is not enough to kill a battery, however, the battery doesn't gain sheeot when I start the motor. It stays exactly the same, even if I rev it....

Basically something is wrong with the charging system. The guy I bought the flywheel off off said it might not charge, but I am checking some other stuff first.

Frank, I WILL be riding tomorrow. I am charging my battery right now, it is ready to rip!
Vogi, bring that spare just in case!

Hooked up the meter to the regulator/rectifier/ stator. With the ski running it read 2.5 out of 200 amps. When I goosed the throttle it jumped to 5.4

Not enough to charge at all...it does sound like regulator/rectifier.

What makes you think that's not enough to charge it???
Do you have any idea what voltage that stator puts out?

Well, today I decided to rip my hood off and look into this problem some more. (Too busy riding waves the last couple days). I looked at the plug on the stator/flywheel cover and noticed some rust coming out of it...Next I try to turn it and it had vibrated loose (I could hand turn it). I ripped off the flywheel cover and no water, but moisture did get in and there was a super thin layer of rust and corrosion over everything (especially the stator).

Cleaned everything up with carb cleaner and wd40 and put it all back together, I am hoping that was the problem.

I'll keep ya posted.
