crankcase woes

not sure what is going on here, my bendix got stuck on sunday and i pulled the flywheel to investigate. The bendix was broken on the inside the little piece came out from the center of the bendix.

Replaced in the past 6 weeks:
2 woodruff keys, one from backfire, second from the chitty msd flywheel
bendix
stator - noticed a nick in the coil, sent off the JSS

I also noticed a good deal of oily residue inside the crankcase area where the stator resides each time i opened it up. the motor is not even two seasons old ~100 hours most likely much less. Should i just replace the seals or is there a way to leakdown test to see if the seal is bad?

I was told i need to "lap" my crank snout after the two woodruff keys sheared. Can someone please explain how to do this? or what type of shop to take it to?

I put on a used bendix last night, rode for about 8 minutes. Went to jump on the hood for a hood ride and it died before i could hit the throttle. I rolled off the ski and tried to start it. THe bendix would engage for only a split second the just whur around and not engage. This was repeatable even after we got it out of the water. Second replacement bendix should be here later today.

Am i just missing a bigger issue here? Getting so sick of dealing with this that i just want to drop in a used 701.

thanks!

Two crappy bendixes??? Maybe the last one kept sticking out screwing everything else up and when it blew, got the oil all over?

Like supertune said, replace the brass bushings in the case and in the timing cover if they show any wear at all.

well a different bendix fixed the problem. Mile9c1 you have pm. I ordered up two at the same time on sunday when it went bad. least one of them worked. The one that was bad that i took out would not spin freely on the gear that engages the flywheel, but the new one i put in does.

Who's got bushings in the case for sale i have never replaced those. I need to buy a set. A part number of something. throw me a freaking bone.

Appreciate the advice all!

Anything to help a fellow rider. When I ordered mine it only took a day or two to get them.

I actually bought extras and have two sitting here for my 96 SJ if you get real desperate.
