Close Call with Gator

Yesterday evening I took a ride in the St. John's river with Skidaddy. We rode from about 7 until 8pm. At about 7:30, we were resting out in the river and talking for a second when about 10 feet away a large boil came up exactly like I've seen many times before when a gator goes under. I pulled a back muscle twisting around and getting my ski started and racing away. We both got to the small beach that we were in front of and I watched until I saw about a 5-6 footer swimming away from where we were. Was he coming to attack or was he checking us out and then decided to flee? Either way I almost crapped my pants. What do you guys think?

I think you've got nothing to worry about with a 5 or 6 foot gator.

i'd be worried regardless.......its the bacteria in a gators mouth that makes them so dangerous AFTER the bite....

was Bob making those grunting mating calls again....sumbiyaaatch!

Not that I heard......although he could have been making those underwater bubbly grunting noises.....I don't know:cool2: I guess I'll still ride in the river, but no more sitting in the water at dusk after seeing 5 gators in 5 minutes. Kinda makes me miss North Alabama:frown: I think I'll cry like a little girl if (when) my ski breaks down and leaves me stranded in the middle of that mess.

Yea, the St Johns is no game! I go out at Lake Washington in Melbourne, and weather you go up river or down river you will see mass amounts of gators. Were talking 6ft's to 15ft's all day. They are not skerd either. Talking to a "pro bass fisher" he said he was fishing at the front of the boat when he heard something, turns around and its a damn 7ft gator with his front legs already in the boat. He said he poked him with his pole and he rode out.lol

But yea there is way to many of them fuggers!

^^^^Only with a spechial permit. I guess you gotta get in a lottery or something. Not to say that we havnt, but it is very sketchy, and you can get in huge trouble. Lots of fun though if you love adventure.

the state of florida just issued a few thousand aligator hunting permits a few weeks ago. I think it's open season right now.
