I was riding back to the docks and all of a sudden my ski lost 1/2 its power. The spitters were spitting and it was running but just seemed really week. So I pull it out of the water and start it up. It seemed to be making a bit of a grinding noise. I shut it off and checked the compression (174 and 170). The plugs look a little burnt, but no metal shavings or anything. I turned it over without plugs and it sounds ok. It doesn't stop drastically or anything. Put plugs back in, start it up, sounds like a beast, but still a little grindy.

My theories: Loose Flywheel? Crank problems? Too much oil and just runnin a little shady?

Any ideas?

Try a new set of plugs and ride it. The grinding noise might be the pump. I knwo mine will make some noise at idle due to the motor vibration. My guess is a fouled plug though. Good Luck!

Don't know yet... at least a blown bearing. I will rip it apart tomorrow...There are metal chunks (small) by the flywheel. Still has good compression on the top 174 and 170. I havent taken the head off yet. Hopefully just a bearing and a seal, if i'm very very lucky....

I doubt it's bent... ski still wanted to run... I think the front cyllinder went lean when the seal went. ********, too much time on bling this winter and I knew that bearing was a little shady when I put it together, but time was runnin out..

Just thinking out loud: If the rod was bent, wouldn't the compression be lower on that side since the piston is not traveling up as close to the head as it normally would?

I'm hoping for the best! :fingersx:

I still don't know all of what is wrong... The top of the front piston has a couple tiny tiny chunks around the edge and the front cyllinder wall has some light scoring.

Micmac is gonna rip the rest apart when he gets home.

Those chunks and scoring are probably from the pieces of the bearing going threw the motor.

I feel your pain, got the same grinding last Sunday.

Sorry to hear it, that boat is just too bad-ass to not be flying.
Good luck.

Edit:
shavings under the flywheel cover, that's from the ring-gear / bendix.
You did rule out a stuck bendix?
