Hi, I'm new to this forum and I have found some great info on here but I have a few questions.

I want to try back flips (off of roughly 4 - 5ft waves) this year and I am pretty confident that I can do them, but I am curious about some mods.

I am wondering about cutting the back/bottom of my ski at a 45 deg angle, how much will this affect doing back flips, and normal rec riding?

Also I am planning on getting the Sato flip nozzle kit, any opinions on the kit, and if so what brand do you recommend?

Is there any benefit to removing the stock foam, and using expanding foam like what is used for footholds?

I have heard of people not using rail caps, does anybody have a link to a build with that done, and are you guys glassing the tops smooth around?

Just so you know I am planning on getting footholds from "tom21", they look bad ass, also the front foothold.

I would have to say your best mod would ba a SJ with a monster motor.

That is if a back flip is worth 15-20 grand.

The SXR is a race bred hull. It does not even have positive trim ( the nose does not lift with increased speed), the nose actually drops some at WOT. I am not saying you will not be able to do it, but, Mark was correct for the most part. The SJ is much better suited, it is not a wet hull design like the SXR. To make your SXR more capable, you are going to have to spend alot of money, and alot of time modifying the hull..... It would be more cost effective to pick up a used SJ. If riding in the surf, you can flip with just straps or footholds.

Surf size is exaggerated more than Johnson size, most people who don’t live by the coast don’t realize how big 4-5’ surf really is. If your really riding in 4-5’ surf you can back flip your SXR easily with very few mods, even though the SXR is a race breed hull. Don’t bother with the cutting the back/bottom at a 45deg angle or even with a Sato flip nozel. That’s all flat water stuff. Only remove as little of the stock foam as possible when installing footholds. Expanding foam sucks up water and the stock kawi foam does not. For a good basic surf setup on your SXR you should first “D” cut your ride plate. Install footholds or footstraps or footholds and straps (whatever you prefer). Get some type of hood securing strap set up going, and swap out the stock pole for a good aftermarket aluminum one (You’ll break your stock pole on your first BF attempt guaranteed!) Add a pole limiter strap and your pretty much ready to go. Now get your attempts/success on video and post it up!! Good luck Bro!

What he said. They allready have plenty of power for a 3-4 foot wave backflip. Its all balls.

....no you do not need a SJ for surf.
