Other 5 Broken primers what to do?

I have 5 primers taken out of different skis and none of them work. I took one of them apart and i see the rubber boot, is this what goes bad? Is there anyway to fix these? or are they a throw away item?

I just switched to bulb primers with the same issue. Keep your primer, your starter will thank you for it.

Bulbs don't last either. I quit using primers. A shot of fogging spray or gas in the carbs and fire it up on the trailer and don't need to prime again all day. Or put a towell over carbs to choke it for first crank.
Primer can come in handy in the surf to bring a ski back to life that got a small gulp of water. Other than that it's just more hoses cluttering up engine compartment and another part to replace to often.

There was a thread recently on rebuilding primers. If I recall it was just an o-ring. Perhaps google site search it. I never find what I'm looking for with the search function here.

Agreed-bulbs suck as well. Mine lasted maybe two weeks.
I haven't had one in months but I generally start it with a shot if fuel in the carbs to make up. I like a fast clean startup. As posted above they can be crucial in the surf. Quick shot of straight fuel will save your ass at times.

You can try taking it apart and putting a viton seal there, I swear I think they assemble those things with regular rubber o-rings that gasoline will eat away at. If you tune it properly and put a genuine mikuni rebuild kit in there, I assume it will start right away. I never had luck with the aftermarket junk.

Just twist the barb end off the primer and knock the handle off the shaft. Then you can replace the o-ring which costs about 25 cents at almost any hardware store. It's really easy. I don't understand why people despise primers so much...

or buy the made in the usa primers John Zigler sells, i have one with 5 seasons on it still going strong. I have a couple bulb primers from him too, No problems after two seasons. I like the bulb primers because you cannot smash and slice your knees on them.

Just replaced primers on both ski's. They seem to last a year or so for me. They're not that expensive. Chaulk it up to maint cost.
Depending on how you hook 'em up, a bad one can cause a bunch of different fuel issues. But, having one can mean the difference between getting your motor started in the surf or a tow-in and flipping the ski to puke out water. (same reason I like heavy, beefy batteries)

primers help if u sub/ get water in the carbs or what ever to get the ski runing back to the truck.

but i fire up my skis weekly ( if im not riding that week) no i hardly need to prime...

I like that. Consider them a wear item.

Hey..the truth is the truth. They are made of lame pot metal on the outside....don't expect much more on the inside.
BTW: it's a good idea to coat the entire thing (heavily) in your choise of grease once installed. It might not make the plunger last longer, but it will surely make it easier to remove and replace.

I've been using the stupid little clear Walbro bulb primers for 5 years now. I thought it wouldn't last, but I have them on all 4 of my skis and haven't had one fail yet.

I got tired of breaking/failing plunger primers and these Walbro units are $5 at Lowes in the lawn mower section.....plus you can't gnarl your knee on it!

bulb primer has been under my hood for 5 pluss years, keeping them out of the sun is the key I think. starting fluid is bad for a two stroke it contains no oil. You can stop a run away by simply putting something over the exhaust outlet like a flip flop or towel.

i need to fix my primer. it does make the initial start up easier. for some reason, if my sj sits for over an hour i have to reprime my fuel system. need to look in to it. more...

my primer has failed differently from yalls. when i pull mine out it pulls it self right back in, like a spring. there must be a clog somewhere not allowing it to pull fuel in. my o ring must be fine if its holding the suction. idk...

That's typically what they do when the primer isn't primed (aka completely dry). Sounds like fuel is leaking out of the primer itself over time. I bet a new o-ring will solve your issues.
