Could be lots of things, but a “rescued” ski usually means a carb rebuild is a good place to start even if it’s not the issue.

I was thinking that he might have two issues going on. A weak starter and the bendix teeth jammed / stuck with the flywheel teeth. Turning the engine over by hand could release the bendix and maybe turn the armature a little if it is engaged. Total 100% long shot, but easy to try.

It also could have a dead spot on the armature. Remove the lanyard so it won’t start and reach down and turn the driveshaft. Probably have to take spark plugs out to do this. Then try it again and see if it just clicks. Not a long-term fix, but it might work.

On our 1200 Dasa we go by gallons of fuel used. At 50 gallons, the compression and engine internals looked great at our first refresh. Next time we pushed it to 75 gallons, compression was still 100% but all the bearings showed more wear. But I wouldn’t say they were in dangerous territory. I...

We run our 1200 at about 120°, the RRP pipe about 125 to 130° and the RRP water box I would love to get to 130 to 140° but with no water in it at all, it only gets up to about 129°. You don’t want water to sizzle on the RRP water box but if water steams that’s about right.

What top do you run, the 38mm stock SJ one?? Would that flow enough air for a 1200 Dasa on a freestyle ski? Will they fit 50mm carbs?

I think that unrestricted 3/8 line is too much water. How hot does the WB get? Can you hold your hand on it for 5 seconds? My guess it's warm at best. Just clamp the line off and go for a quick ride, you'll know real quick if it gains you some power or fixes your other issue.

We use an infrared heat gun to check temps. Ride for five or 10 minutes, then get to shore quick and get the hood off. Check the temperatures as fast as you can. If you wait too long, the engine will actually heat up after you shut it off. I’m no expert and obviously each set up is different...

What are the temps? Water box - (if you’re running a 3/8 line to the water box that’s way too much water). Pipe Cylinder/ head Check when running good and bad. What’s the water temperature and the air temperature? How much water do you have running to the exhaust manifold?

Just curious, what is the issue with a RRP water box? Is it just the back flow issue or is it a performance gain to switch boxes.

Just flip that tire around on the wheel and wear out the other half.
