If you're going to have almost 4k to spend, I'd hold out on a roundnose. I wouldn't be concerned about the year at all. Look for what it come with. footholds, prop, intake grate, b-pipe are mandatory. Hood, aftermarket handlepole, ported engine, etc are very desireable mods.

You need to pull the plug boots off and trim the wire back 1/2 inch or so. The plug wires usually break down right at the connection with the plug. If you aren't comfortable, I'm sure a race shop could do it for cheap. Electrical problems suck. Silicon around the boots wouldn't help anything...
