I want to take 3 inches off of mine pole.
Should I cut it in the middle and then have it welded
or cut at the bottom ?
used search option and only found out in RN pole people cut it at the bottom.
help a Polak:banghead:

also pics would help a lot.
thanks

I'd cut it where its the straightest, so the two pieces will join back together the closest. It shouldn't matter where the weld is if its done right.

cutting it in the middle seems to be the easiest way to do it.
The other thing is that i would like the pole to be straigther, right now it
looks like its straight(almost) from the bottom to the 3/4 of its length and then it bends down(?) and I dont like that at all.
Do I have to cut it in two places???
thnaks for help accbr.

If you're not going to be the one doing the welding I'd let the welder look at it before cutting it. He'll be able to see where the best place would be. I can't weld aluminun very good. It takes different prep work, pre-heating, shielding gas, etc... It'll shrink if you get it too hot.

In January I cut 3.5" out of the center of my pole and had it welded back. I did the cutting myself (there is an extra tube inside there so pay attention) and then I stripped back enough paint for the welder to do his job. He charged me 30 bucks and I think it was the best $30 I've spent on a ski so far. That tube inside needs to be tweaked a little so that it will line back up after the pole is shortened. The tube runs diagonal. It'll make sense after you cut it.
