the bore is large enough that it needs all the exhaust opening. I've tried it both ways, it runs better with them open. It also saves you about $400 in gas powervalve parts. The 1200cc waterdawg cylinders run the powervalves because it has a larger exhaust opening to start with.

lamey motors are ok if you've never ridden a built 66e. I don't run a waterbox, people look when I fire it up. it's a tad bit loud but on a windy day or at the ocean nobody would notice. Its deep sounding so it's not as annoying. I did get an inline silencer to try to quiet it a little bit...
