    SJ Impeller questions

Your yb-sc-i is a good prop for a 701 once its pitched down. The MFGs pitch numbers dont mean much, they might as well just stick with calling them "A,B,C," or "1,2,3". The first pitch number is the most difficult to measure, the second number is usually is equal to the last two inches of the...

    300/440/550 650 pump

You wont be LOL when you add a pipe and "bump" the timing, unless $10/gal race fuel is used. Maybe things were different 20 years ago when everyone was sticking pistons while doing the same mods that you are planning.

    300/440/550 650 pump

Get rid of some compression and leave the timing stock if you plan to go full throttle for more than a few seconds.

    300/440/550 650 pump

The old props work fine once the ski is moving but struggle out of the hole. The old style hubs require more forced feeding than newer pointy ones. A stock Solas "I" is about right for a low port 750 or 800. A 750SXI or 650 will need some load removed. I start by lowering the leading edge by 1mm...

    Cavitation issues (mechanical grinding/vibrating)

You can tell if its cavitation by hopping it out of the water while its vibrating. If it does not smooth out in the air then your problem is mechanical.

    300/440/550 650 pump

A SJ pump will fit but there is a little more to it than just slapping it in. You can get a lot more low speed thrust from the stock pump by using a re-pitched Solas KA-SC-I. This prop with a deep scoop grate works very well overall.

Stock water separator in fuel line?

The separator does catch most of the water in the vent line before it gets in the tank. Where would you rather have the water go? Venting the tank inside the hull along with not using flame arrestors is very popular these days. IMHO it is also very stupid, think things through before you start...

    Good Deal on Klotz R-50

That kl100 is for alcohol. It will mix with gas but has very poor corrosion protection.

    One ring

Single ring pistons were common on 440-550 race engines that turned over 8000rpm. All of the newer larger engines 650 and up benefit more from increased ring seal over decreased ring drag. The crossover rpm is usually over 8500.

    Transplanting a 62t waveraider 701 into a Superjet hull

Making it work is just a matter of bolting it in place. Making it work well requires more attention to detail. First, your new engine needs to be in good shape before any mods are done. The key to making a 62T cylinder run really good is in the pipe and prop. It wont make any power with a stock...

    pump shimming problems

Some shimming headaches can be helped by loosening the four long pump bolts so the nozzle can float where it needs to be. Yamahas driveshaft is not at all critical as long as it is close. Spend more time shimming the engine, thats the real spline killer.

whats a complete running 61x worth

Without being able to carefully inspect all of the parts individually, it only a core for overhaul. There are plenty of people that dont know the difference and will pay $500.

can you have carbs that are to big for your ski? 49mm full spectrums

Look a little closer at the carbs design than just the size of its throttle plate. The venturi needs to be the smallest area of the entire intake tract. If its not then expect tuning problems. A stock sbn44 venturi is just under 40mm and the large butterfly area means that its not in the way. A...

    Differences in 750 CDI's???

All 92-03 standup stators/cdi and all 92-95 sitdown stators/cdi are compatible. The only box that you want to throw away are the 92s. Do not use the cdi if it has 3728 or 3729 on it. These have no high rpm retard and no rev limit. The 3733 box is good and will rev into the mid 7000 rpm range...

Where do I find complete jet kits

Yes and yes. If its four-cycling you know its rich and won't hesitate. If its in a clean two-cycle then response will determine how lean it is. Its nice to have a clean mixture with good response but often not possible. A minimum of sputtering below the pipe is usually the best compromise.

    Why are they so heavy?

I just found some information on material weights. E-glass has a specific gravity of 2.55. Carbon fiber averages 1.75. Epoxy resin around 1.25. Resin content is normally 30-32% by weight for autoclave cures and 50% for open air cures. With carbon costing 10X glass the weight savings can be $100...
