SJ Impeller questions

I've been looking at impellers lately for my super, What's the deal with the swirl impellers? I am sending my Solas YB-SC-I 14/17 off to have repitched down from 14 and blue printed at impros.
I also have a skat trak slimline 14/18 too, but thinking of sticking to the solas for whatever reason.

What are your inputs?

I have read about impellers with pitches such as 9 degrees and stepping up toward the end.

I will be running a piped 701 61x/62t set up with a wetwolf cone and ride surf mostly.

Your yb-sc-i is a good prop for a 701 once its pitched down. The MFGs pitch numbers dont mean much, they might as well just stick with calling them "A,B,C," or "1,2,3". The first pitch number is the most difficult to measure, the second number is usually is equal to the last two inches of the blade. The leading edge pitch affects load but has more to do with the speed range of the boat. Fast boats do better with steeper leading edges but cavitate/vibrate more out of the hole. A smooth running freestyle prop will need a flatter leading edge to keep water from boiling over the tops of the blades since there is less pressure at the inlet. Swirl props are the latest attempt at reducing cavitation and they generally work well. Large hub pump/props simply fill what is normally an airspace. These pumps prime and recover from air intrusion faster without a cavity of compressed air inside the pump.
