If you run the spacer you are increasing the length of the exhaust which would put the exhaust pulse back there at a slower rate and that would make it more of a low end pipe
I have complete mods pipes for 750s
chambers head pipes and manifolds
inculding the resnoator
the same pipe that was in the yellow x2 we did
all brand new
the reversion you talk about is called stand off
and its caused by the weight of the air hitting the reed when its closed and then bouncing back up the carb
this is the very reason there is such a thing as a d-booster novi
it was designed to stop double fueling with this secnario
