I'm running a couple different setups. My 900 Kawi powered FX runs a 16/21 skat swirl in a 650 pump. My "frankenstein" FX runs a 11/17 solas swirl in a kawi 148mm pump spun by a Dasa 850. And finally, my orange FX runs a 14/19 skat swirl in a 650 pump, spun by a team scream ss865.
No, they just need to machine 6mm off the inner hub mounting surface and then counterbore the threads an equal 6mm. It's very easy and only takes about 30 minutes if they know what they're doing.
It will work, but a skat swirl would be much better. The most economical setup is a stock SXR prop, it works great but needs to be machined for a 6mm setback.
If you eliminate the lanyard, highly suggest a new throttle spring every season. I change mine every year just before Daytona. They're only about $10 and it's cheap insurance. Mine are worn approx half way through when I pull them after a years use.
Make sure the shoe is centered in the intake tunnel and that the pump is centered in the pump box. Use the tip of the pump cone as a reference point and measure from side to side. Also, using the pump cone for rerference, measure the height from the surface of the pump box up to the pump cone...
