Just throwing this out there. Maybe its not holding pressure. Pull the return line from the carbs off and blow into it while holding the pressure with your thumb on the carb outlet. It should hold, if not, find where its leaking.
If its misaligned then you should be able to shim it to compensate. There's no reason you should be going through midshafts and driveshafts if everything is lined up correctly.
Sounds like it might be rich on the low speed screws. How do you have them set? Also, when was the last time you did a rebuild on the carbs? If its been a while you may want to rebuild them and replace the needle/seats.
Did you ever pull the head off and look in the water jacket? When you suck sand, alot of times it will pack your water jacket in your cylinders full of sand. You can't really flush it out of there because the water will just find a way around the sand and you'll run alot hotter.

You need to rejet. Check your water screws on the pipe too.

You could of called the cops but I bet that he would of sided with the coucher because you were doing something that they consider wreckless.
Lets see the holes.
you said you blew out the fuel lines, does that include the fuel tank pickup?
check the pulse line.
also, make sure the whole system is leak free by removing the return line and blowing into it while blocking the return from the carb with your finger.
