sure you can go for ages and not crack a cylinder , some people drive for years with no insurance and never have a car crash I will not port a cylinder for some one with out a girdle head, the reason being by the time you machine the head and put another head gasket your halfway there anyway

Replace the exciter coil Its getting hot and shorting out , this reduces the amount of current to run the igniton and so it misfires etc When it cools down the short goes away and the ski runs again until the coil heats up comprimising the insulator in it This is a extremely common yamaha...
