I hate these threads, which means I hate myself. Jetting start point?

I would install jets two sizes over stock and tune from there. I do not expect the 44s to need pilots or mains over 130,. I tuned a stock 701 62t cyl with 760 carbs that used 140 mains and still required the top screw open a little.. Start with the top screws open 2 turns and see if it runs...

Check your rpm, that prop is awfully steep.

    Stock blaster rpm/ top speed

Find a pipe and port the cylinder or install a 62t. Bend the impeller to reach to 6900rpm. It will pull much better and get into the upper 40s. They get more critical on tuning and not so pump gas tolerant if you push it more than that.

    dual 44s on 701

Crossover open provides a steadier pull on the pilot jets. The net effect is it allows a little better response from a leaner 1/4 throttle setting. No crossover usually requires a little more fourcycling at 1/4 throttle for best response. The confusing part is in the fact that no crossover can...

    dual 44s on 701

Keep in mind that filling the crossover allows for smaller jets. You need to spend some time and power tune the top screws to find out what "YOUR" main jet requirements are. They are seldom what someone far away thinks it should be!

SX/SXi/SXi Pro 750 sxi little/no spark - Must be stator...?

The plug wires are solid core and they do break. Usually when I find a weak spark it was because the core wire broke and the insulation stretched making an internal gap. The symptoms are erratic running. It seems to always occur near the cap. Its an easy fix by pulling the cap and clipping the...

    Pop off pressure dual 38’s

I know a lot of guys using A/M tanks that vent inside the hull. My concern is always discounted. I run my vents outside with an OEM water catcher. I put an small asprin bottle over the vent hose with a tiny pin hole in it. This allows me to sub with very little, if any, water getting to the...

` Trying to accurately predict an outcome can be difficult. Learn the basics and get some experience. Mechanics are easy, fluids more abstract.

    Stock yamaha exhaust breakdown

The science is fairly simple, finding the limit is expensive and time consuming.

    Stock yamaha exhaust breakdown

They are really just drying out the waterbox. Backpressure is needed with tuned pipes but it throttles power otherwise. Its hard to make a stock SJ exhaust freer flowing enough without making a lot of noise.

impeller has 1/8" rotational slop, please advise.

You can get a remarkable amount of "tuning" at half and even quarter wave lengths.

    Pop off pressure dual 38’s

It is not very significant but definitely noticeable around 1/4 throttle. No big deal, after a couple of blips, 1/4 throttle mixture returns to normal. It just takes slightly longer with higher pop-off. At full throttle I have found that combustion temps do vary slightly with fluctuations of...

impeller has 1/8" rotational slop, please advise.

I was thinking about the fatigue life of thin material. Stainless isn't too bad. Composites have limited pressure capacity with flat sides. Thin aluminum will quickly crack since the flats will always be flexing. Square waterboxes are a very bad choice because they have to be overly heavy to...

    Pop off pressure dual 38’s

The only problem I found with high popoff is on startup. Idle to 1/4 throttle is noticably (more) leaner until the pump side gets primed and up to pressure. The whole reason we measure the inlet side is because of the pump. Without that we would be measuring from the outlet and spring tension...

    DISCONTINUING THE SUPERJET????

At least Yamaha made it big enough to fit the Kawasaki engine. That with some work on the pump inlet should fix any power/speed deficiency. This has been the problem with buying a new SJ for a while, not enough engine to work with.
