if you use impact, be careful not to get it to tight. Otherwise when you go to take it back off with a puller you will be putting a lot of additional stress on the front crank bearing. I chose to make a flywheel lock tool and use a torque wrench following the factories spec on torqueing it...

does not sound like an exhaust issue to me. Have you checked the compression of both cylinders? what do the plugs look like? are both cylinder plugs sparking? need more info to narrow down the issue
