Today I mixed up some 'icing' and finished in the driveshaft fill. I also went around both sponsons to blend them in........ready for sanding!

Maybe try an ad on Facebook or something first. Many of the 'old guys' restoring old cars or tractors have a mill at home. Boring a cylinder is a very simple machining process and can be done successfully by most people who own a mill.

I finished up the foam placement, then used a sanding disc on the die grinder to blend all the edges a bit.

I got the driveshaft fill roughed in place. Also ground a small V along the rear hull cap lines and filled those in. And I added some foam into the hood.......there is reason behind that. #1....Have you ever lost a hood on the water?......they sink quickly......bye bye custom paint or graphics...

I paused on this for a little bit while I pulled an engine and tore it down for my Trans Am. The block, crank, and heads are now at the machine shop. Hoping to get this thing back on the road soon!

    Surface rust on bearing cage

Yes, it's that easy. Yamaha just puts somebody elses bearing in their own box. When it's only a bad outer bearing I replace them myself with a simple bearing splitter...

    Surface rust on bearing cage

I believe that's a 6307nr bearing. Skf f.a.g, koyo, nachi......take your pick $30-50 just about anywhere. Probably cost you another $30-50 to get a machine shop to swap it out.

    Surface rust on bearing cage

Clean it with brake parts cleaner and THEN spin it by hand, turn it back and forth. Small pitting can be hard to feel on an oily bearing, it needs to be clean and dry. Otherwise, just order that one bearing and change it out, all you need is a bearing splitter to remove, and a heat gun to or hot...

I fixed a Cushman 3 wheeled cart like that for a guy years ago. He painted it up like a John Deere.

I've modified the stock 750 nozzle to work on this swap. I know the common thing to do is use a 650sx nozzle. The reason is cause the cable attachment point on the 750 nozzle sticks out too far and hits the hull. I figured since I'm doing epoxy and glass work anyway........... Now it just...

550sx to 750 "All or Nothing" build

I got the other sidewall reinforced today. Then I took all the screws back out of the right side sponson. I used a narrow gasket scraper tool to remove all excess adhesive that had squished out. Then sanded the outer areas with 120 grit. Then I mixed up some cabosil thickened epoxy to rub all...

A bit more reinforcement done today. Made up a pattern and got the whole side done in 1 piece. This is just a flatwater/lake rec ski, so probably overkill on reinforcement. But that's sort of the way I do things.
