The stock bilge does a great job at keeping water out of the hull under normal riding conditions, I suggest keeping it. I think walmart sells a cheap electric bilge kit with everything you need to do it right

The JS300 was only made in 1986. If it was a 300 it would would have a hole in the top left tray side where the oil fill cap was (the 300's had oil injection like the 650's)

150 psi, also make sure the compression on both cylinders are within 10% Many compression gauges will read low so don't be completely fixated on hitting the 150 psi mark, do make sure they are within 10% though

650's are super reliable, bullet proof and cheap to modify.... if it runs and has good compression - buy it

Wow that is really cool, yamaha sure put a lot more into their motors than kawasaki did - at least as far as the two cylinder two smokes go The motor is back together. Compression is 150/150 like it should be and it starts up almost instantly every time. I was able to get out to the lake today...

It was shooting exhaust out of the pisser when it was in the water! The head gasket was bad for sure, the metal ring was cracked and the gasket material behind the crack was all black and burned. The bore looks like its in great shape from a visual inspection. I know I should do all new seals...
