That "panther black" basecoat from PPG that I did my wife's SJ in was $90 a 1/2 pint!! But, it mixes 1:1 with reducer to give 1 pint sprayable............that would be $720 A GALLON FOR BASE!!!! Good thing I wasn't painting a car.
I've seen a BUNCH of them hole the rear piston. Usually the triple fuel pump upgrade takes care of it. The single outlet was old and weak and that's EXACTLY what happens............ALWAYS the rear. It rarely ever hurts the cylinder. Hone, piston, a few gaskets, rebuild fuel system, and upgrade...
IN THE PAST......I had VERY good experiences with the VENOM brand carb kits. Something has happened and the quality has fallen off a bit. They are still mostly OK except the db shaped o'ring on the pump side WILL LEAK on Seadoo carbs. You'd think they're all the same Mikuni SBN right? Well...
Nice!! I don't have any cool stories like that. My first flip was in about '02. I had ordered SEVERAL parts for fixing up my own pair of WR500's from the local dealer. I also went in with my bro-in-law to order parts for his '94-ish SP. One day I get a random call from the dealer, they got in...
I have my shop name/number, and decals on the back glass of the tow rig. I test in regularly used areas with park rangers ALL THE TIME. And lots of these I fix have invalid/expired/missing registration. ONCE.....I was asked about it and I explained that's what I do and they need tested under a...
OK, so today I sold the supercharged GTX as a project with the (mostly parted) '02 GTX that still had a good engine. Still managed to OVER triple my investment on that and somebody will be able to put a nice ski together for 1/2 price.
I also went ahead anf finished ths GTX DI I've had for 2...
When the parts are chalky I also use fine steel wool or just scuff pads depending on how bad it is. Clean with alcohol, the wipe with Penetrol. As you found out........really dry plastic sucks that stuff right in. when it sits on top and feels tacky is just right. Then just keep it out of the...
Sounds like it's getting close WFO.
I pulled the exhaust, pulled the power valve shafts, and pried out the seals. Those on the rear cylinder were toasty!! That's on me, I never checked 'em. That piston was just ate up on the exhaust side.......intake side was only scored a little bit. I emery...
Pressure test went poorly.........leaking like a sieve out of the rear cylinder powervalve shaft seals. Well........that would explain the lean burndown and partially melted piston from that cylinder. Every back pulse was sucking in extra air right into the exhaust port causing a superheat...
Yep, same worthless design. NORMALLY, you can see the signs cause there will be oily 2 stroke residue running down the seal and dripping off the lower case. I've NOT had this lower end apart, and it does NOT have signs of leakage. I guess the pressure test will show. About to do that right now!
Same here........season is starting off VERY slow. Nothing but clouds and rain. The lakes here are at flood levels and most campgrounds are under water.
Nice! I just finished working on one I sold........for free........I sold an XLT800, guy only put about an hour on it and burned down the rear piston. I didn't find anything wrong with the carbs. All back together now and I guess I'll have to pressure test it. Rear seal looks fine and has no...
I've seen the Pro-x pistons raise compression. I've also seen the Wiseco 'Pro-Lite' series pistons raise compression. I personally have NOT seen that with any other brand. Just going oversize on the bore doesn't affect compression too much to even matter........unless it's a 'big bore'...
What I meant was 36cc is 36cc..........won't matter on the brand, or even the squish band for that matter. If it's 36cc on a 701, it should only make around 175psi. So that's sort of wierd.
We're at the Talladega speedway on pit road..........truck showin'.
............just in case any of you boys wanna come see some phat rides and visit with me.
Well, it sounds like some proper troubleshooting needs done. Possibly the cdi COULD be bad.......so process of elimination would tell us. FIRST test battery voltage WHILE cranking. Many ignitions have a low voltage threshold and WILL NOT light off under about 10 volts...........including my...
