Find a semi truck parts store, look for a coupler for a turbo I think. I have used one for a while now.....you will need to cut it shorter to get it to work. just dont cut it too short.....a little longer than the FP one and then clamp it down good.
I did mine(the pole) the same way...just I put the metal on the inside.....and spent a little more time making it look good(well maybe not good but better)
The hood is the hard part if you want it to look good.
It was a piece of sheet metal bent to the shape of the pole, then I slid it into one half of the pole and used pop rivets to hold it in place....then slid the other half on and pop riveted it on.
then glass.....over lapping about 4 in either side of the seem. The metal went about 4 in into...
I should have taken some pics of mine too.
I cut out a section in the middle and then added a piece of metal for support the glassed around the cut. Worked great.
You will also need to cut the hood for the pole to fit. I found this to be the hardest part.....but that was the first time I...
I tried a short turn plate with a SN pole and had trouble with the start/stop switch and the throttle lever hitting the pole. Not sure if it was just me or if it is like that one all SN
Like Matt said, it can be done.....Mine didnt look too bad (the pic in my sig is with a short SN pole). You will have to clearance the hood.
It will be less work to put a RN pole on and it looks better.
It will cost you a lot less to shorten yor SN pole.
I would do the RN pole.
