Wrong, rickter edge has 2 part foam in the tray as well as gunwales
For you guys that complain of foam getting water logged, as long as the foam is marine grade, it will probbably get wet after 20 years of riding unless you store your ski under water..
Foam it. I've seen $20k+ skis dissapear in seconds in lake and surf..
P.S. once foamless ski start sinking, fellow rider cant rescue it or he goes down with it. Bobbing ski with even 20 years old water logged foam will bob to shore itself. Personal experience with a/m foamless ski and old...
If you are in florida, register it as home build vessel /PWC/.
all you need is an invoice with list of parts.
put on application you are using yamaha engine as a donor.
As long as you go in all prepared, with all paperwork needed you should have no problem.
After riding my Edge for a while now, I think adding front sponsons would improve the handling. It will allow front of the ski to stay more afloat when slashing the lip of the wave.
Note the photo, how the nose kinda digs under water. That ski is still one of the best surf skis there is imo..
Ive had mine for 3 months now. Most important it is a tank. This hull will withstand serious surf abuse. It stays dry, zero water in the engine bay. I would highly recommend an upgrade of the stock scupper to OVP scupper made to fit rickter scupper tube.
Stock foodholds need a bit modification...
I have both Evo and Edge. Try the edge and then we can talk about carving... They are both great hulls, but yet they ride completely different. IMO Edge is a better surf boat. Back to Op's question, Edge tray is made of thick solid material and it has foam in it.
Skip the evo and go for the edge. better surf ski IMO. Although flotation is important for surf application, you should consider other criterias as well..
Overall, Rickter is far superior hull than SJ.
evo without sponsons slides A LOT.
edge carves A LOT.
buy a set of MSD sprak plug boots from PEP boys or any other auto store. Get the one that comes with the tool to clamp the caps. Cut the wires a bit shorter until you have clean wire.
I have vision -4 and rickter Evo in my garage. Both with Jetmaniac 781 engines, mag pumps etc. identical powertrain. Rickter is a bit more playful ski, but it slides a lot. With tubbies, EVO becomes much better boat. Rickter is the best quality built hull I have seen on the market. Vision carves...
