People who have done a defoam/refoam of their SJ will know what I'm talking about, you're taking a whole lot of foam but cutting the side walls on the deck.

Maybe mudphish can say if they use some special foam to compensate ?

thats what demon has in mind........actually, this concept is the VERY reason that motosurfer and butti both got the 24/7 kits.......we were originally going to donor my square and cut it down, but it just never happend...

ahhh... it looks like it made doing certain dirtbike style trick a little easier... at least for getting your feet in and out of the tray. They also toyed around with a fixed position steering on a SJ some time ago... looked like some kind of strange-ass scafolding welded up under the handlepole. Was in PWI or Watercraft World sometime like a year ago.

yeah... i spoke to James about it.. it was pretty ghetto, but he use to go big w/ that contraption

thats exactly what im gonna do to my ski this winter! i think it will work well with my bindings.i may add tubbies too,but dont worry the camo's not going anywhere:biggrin:

But I just can't see it holding up in surf.

Those sidewalls are there for a reason, and they provide lots of strength......but who am i? Go ahead and try it.

This mod is a lot of fun. Did it to an old square nose. Makes the ski handle very nicely, and very accommodating ergonomics for foot placement. Ski looks pretty goofy from a dead on side profile however. The quartering front shot is probably the most flattering.
The one very unexpected and significant consequence of the mod is that you have no gunnels to leverage your arms against when you are climbing back into the tray. This easily quadruples the effort and time to get back in. You feel like a turtle that’s high centered. I only use this ski for pleasure carving on the lake where falling is rare and relatively inconsequential. I would not recommend it for surf ridding since feet in and out of the tray is a regular occurrence, and in large surf sometimes you only have split seconds to recover and ride out before you’ve got a big repair bill on your hands.
