i had my 650 square backfire with stock exhaust. it was on a dolly that was about 8 inches off the floor. i was standing above it on the exhaust side. it blew the exhaust hose of the exhaust. i was at the back of the garage with the door open. it was so loud she thought i was going to be hurt when she came out. not hurt, just scared the crap out of me.

I found the cause of the spark that blew it up.

The guy had just had the starter replaced not too long before winter. The bolts were completely backed out with maybe 2 threads left. Of course the ground wire is attached to one of those bolts. The bolt has burn marks on it where the ground wire was shorting out.

The mechanic also left out motor mount bolts. Nice huh?

Of course either way the hull should have been vented...but there is a good chance nothing would have happened if that bolt on the starter had been tight.

lawsuit, if you are running a business and charging people for services you are liable if you do something wrong, thank god nothing happened to you

As I said, this wasn't my ski when it happened. I bought it just how its seen in the pictures. The previous owner though is extremely lucky he wasn't killed or at least seriously injured.

And ya..im sure if this would have been checked out a bit closer it would have been a lawsuit. I called the guy last night and told him what I had found. Granted, no matter what he should have been venting the fumes out in the first place...however a big spark show in the ski didn't help anything at all.

Oh, and the motor is in PERFECT shape. Great compression and all. SCORE

we used to make tennis ball launchers that worked that way. put in a couple drops of gas into the top, shove a tennis ball into the top, shake it around a little to get the fumes stirred up good, and light a hole at the bottom. kaboom. tennis ball goes out of site....lol

I wish Yamaha installed a blowout door on their standup like Kawasaki does. The poor workmanship that caused the explosion is all too common in motorsports. It seems like all mechanics are total dipsh!ts anymore.

We call it a potato relocater. But I use White Rain from walmart. It has that cheap strip joint smell. But my favorite is ammo is green walnuts it'll shoot a hole through a car door.....(oops)

man we tried to launch a potato with it one time and the cans separated under the combustion. the real potato "spud" guns we used a pvc setup with a 4 1/2 ft. pipe for the barrel, unscrew the back and pray right guard deoderant into the chamber and close it off, then take a potato and force it down into the end of the tube shearing off the outside of the potato, then take a stick or a broom handle and shove it all the way back to the chamber and compress the gas. it had a magneto switch to click for ignition. all it took was a single tiny spark and it would launch the potato a mile away...lol

I watched a guy fire one off the balcony of his apartment one time, and apparently it went over and hit some lady's car windshield while she was driving, about 30 minutes later the cops showed up and confiscated his contraption...lol

yeah, they're not really good for anything except causing problems. I guess you could use one for defensive purposes in an emergency...lol

lmao!!! thats awesome..i wonder how they found the guy with the launcher

well, they probably looked at the direction from which the spud made contact with the lady's car, then went over into the area where they though it originated from, started asking question to pissed off neighbors that were getting tired of hearing "KaBOOM!!!!" around their houses and apt.s every so often, and finally someone dropped a dime on him...LOL

I still have my potato cannons.

I made one really small one using 2inch pipe for the chamber and half inch for the barrel. It is fun to shoot whatever fits..spark plugs(goes through nearly anything), tooties rolls, cherry tomatos...

The large one I just shoot potatoes out of.

Also have a black powder noise cannon that we made. That thing is crazy.

I built one with a 4 inch chamber and had replaceable barrels. The 3/4 inch barrel would shoot radishes. But the pressure was so high that the radish would vaporize in about 100 feet and you just got hit with a burst of radish juice.

I love mine still play with it every summer at the lake.

Damn, that is crazy. I always crack my hood for a few mins after I get them out of the basement before starting them up.
