Why grindout rib's when reinforcing ?

...also, it doesnt look anywhere near as good as the top deck where there are no ribs.

By grinding the ribs, yes, youre getting rid of the stock reinforcement.

But, by properly reinforcing it with the correct materials and procedure, youll make it far stronger than stock. Whatever strength the ribs give it after reinforcement is nowhere near as great as the pita and fugly job thats left.

amen!!!!!

if you are only reinforcing for flatwater i would say use the thinner stuff and if you really want to, leave the ribs. the glass should be able to contour over them.

If you are reinforcing for surf where you might throw it away or pancake the hull from a lot higher up, then use something thicker like a biax weave.

I personally skipped the biax and used 8.9oz Sglass, I feel its plenty strong (for my riding) without extra weight and thickness.

gotta grind the ribs...

#1 good luck getting it glassed without air bubbles around the ribs unless you faired it all in with filler which would not be a good way to go
#2 good luck getting your pipe to fit
#3 it will look like crap

i have a ski that someone attempted to reinforce without grinding the ribs..you dont even want to see the hackjob in that thing

grind the ribs...it takes a very short amount of time..there is no reason not too..you have to prep that whole area anyways..just grind em off while your in there

basically what everyone else said

I grinded mine out last month :) bahahahah bahaha, I've lost my heard where did they go... Oh wait I just dont want to reinvent the wheel when its already been done tons of times before and since the boats hold up to almost anything the average rider can throw at it I imagine its good enough for me...

It's reinforcing, not rocket science. There's an easy, proven method with a known result. Why bother doing something else just to be "different"? There aren't really any benefits for not grinding.

Yes I totally agree Garrett,BTW I was just wondering, does the above apply to your square nose conversion also?:smashfreakB:
