Holy crap you glassed in a whole tray! All I've ever seen were people patching the old tray back in place.

that was my original plan but i found no good reason, and now my tray is epoxyd to the foam!
i still have plenty of glass and res thats for sure!

rode today with NO issues!
couldnt be happier!!!!!!

well been a while since updating the ski thread..
i got a couple big cracks down the bottom of my ski so i am refinishing my bottom. i already layed a layer of glass and carbon in the bottom of the bilge as reinforcement. i ground out the cracks and started stripping the white paint off my hull. i think i will lay a layer of fiberglass or carbon from nose to pump with black dye if glass and use some of the west system 423 graphite filler on top of that for abrasion resistance. then i will be painting my bottom deck black with the appliance epoxy paint.

sound like a good plan?

just know that appliance epoxy paint is NOT fuel resistant......not THAT big of a deal on the bottom, just an FYI

Geoff (bluegtate) used some stuff from duplicolor. The can just says van/truck/car paint. First use some etching primer, then paint. About two coats of paint and 2-3 of clear coat from the can. Still holding up well and his paint goes near the exhuast outlet and still looks good over 1 year later. He doesn't ride as much as you do, but I think that it will hold up better than straight epoxy paint.

Bought all the stuff from autozone. You'll probably end up spending like $60 on paint.

I also did this on the square nose I just sold on the the sides after blending in the tubbies I sold.

Are you paint just the bottom sides, or the bottom bottom also? Seems like the paint would be gone on the very bottom after 1 month of pismo beaching.

yea the paint will come off eventually but touching up the bottom is a easy spray..
thats where the black pigment and graphite filler come into play ;)

though i haven't repair the bottom of my boat like you, my ski came with all the paint sanded off the bottom. the previous owner used it a race/go fast boat rather than freestyle. he said he did that so it would hook up better. Just straight bare SMC on the bottom of mine.

That being said, do you even need to waste your time/money on painting the very very bottom?

Make it strong, I don't regret laying one layer of 8.5 oz on the entire bottom under the motor on mine. Irionically, a wire broke on mine somewhere between the start button and ebox connector at the Sac river, left me floating down about 1/4 mile from the launch until Deaf Dave came and rescued me on Memorial day.

glassed and sanded. idk what i should do about the glass though, all the threads in the nytex look like crap and the glass isnt smooth. butter it up with resin? looks great and is suuper solid. really didnt take much resin so im not at all worried about added weight or the glass coming off.
what to do about the rough fiberglass surface though.....
