foam coming out of drain plug

my buddy and I are putting wcf's into sxr's, and he just foamed his (i ran out of foam so didn't get this far on mine). both sides seemed to turn out fine, it expanded just beyond the factory holes where the rail caps were, but he opened up his drain plug and it was COMPLETELY clogged with foam. unfortunately i don't have any pics yet. anybody see this before?

i mean if foam can get into that plumbing, water can get out and soak up all of our hard work.

we're using us composites 4lb. thanks!

yeah.

I think thats a problem.

you got foam down in there where its supposed to be a void for the water to run thru.
now that 2 part foam will absorb water.

supposedly the kawis have white foam that doesnt absorb water ( typical styrofoam)

IM not sure though, ive never cut into one.

at least get a long drill bit and cut as much out as you can down in that strake vally and use a wet/dry vac to get it out..
other wise, id say your gonna be doing some surgery to correct it.

I just foamed mine too, same thing happened. I don't think it'll be a problem scooping it out i just don't know how it got in there.

seems like when doing footholds in the sxr that maybe you should just reenforce the foothold with a layer or two of glass, then not use any two part foam. the foam is suppose to sit behind the foothold to give it strength, but if the hold is already strong, no need for two part and then you won't have water logging issues in the future.

or am I over looking something?

I agree. I foamed mine but probably would not again. If you are going to foam your SXR you should squirt a little foam around the cut out voids to seal it up before inserting the footholds. Then insert the footholds. When you foam it will stay up top that way.

There is no pipe that runs to the drain. Water just flows through the back of the hull. You need to seal it up in the front by the tool kit and make sure all you plumbing is sealed up good. (Make sure it's dry first) I would just ditch the drain plug and get a scupper valve. Otherwise, your just riding around with water in your hull all the time!

I like the Kawi idea of foam design. Put a scupper cap at the back or a duck bill or PWC doctor style and you are done. Water comes in and it goes out . Screw faoming and all the issues that go with it.

the B1 guys down here typically run with one drainplug out..then if we stop you pop it back in

i've actually done that before too...just dont forget haha.

so water is just going to be sloshing around back there after I worked so hard to seal it up with the footholds and foam? i hope that crab experiment with the foam in a coke bottle holds true!
