Yamaha FX-1

I would imagine the biggest reason is it was too extreme and finicky for even the hardcore recreational rider. Heck a lot of people on here that have heavily modded ski's don't like how finicky they are so you know your average joe isn't going to touch one.

In a world of super SUV couches...leisure riding has mostly taken over, even in the stand up world...unfortunately.

It cracks me up to hear "Extreme" Freeriders talk about the FX-1 being too squirely and hard to ride and then looking at the 1970's jetski promo vid with little 12yr olds girls riding a 440 with no power and narrower hull than the FX and shreddin' like it's nothin' :cheer:

It seems like it all depends on where you come from.......The folks who started out on Kawi 440/550 platforms feel like an FX is stable and the folks who migrated to standups from sitdowns think the FX is to small and squirely. I don't mean that in a derogitory way, just an observation I picked up on from a thread where people documented the skis they owned. Alot of the people who started out on seapoos/etc seemed to gravitate to the larger/heavier/more stable platforms.

The sad truth is that the majority of people today migrate from the glorified boats with handlebars... I've only ridden a 750, SN, and RN and I think they're all a little squirrely and unstable in some aspect. That doesn't mean I don't like them, just makes for more of a challenge. I'd love to try an FX-1...just don't know anyone and don't have the money myself.

Well peeps were using that ski alone for their slalom times...
I think is like a 550 on steroids and very fun to ride. I would like to own one someday. They seem to be getting rare.

yup..seems they are still out there, virtually NEVER modded (or a pipe at most)...

I have a mint hull that I have kicked around the idea of selling a few times....but it comes back to your original statement..

not to mention the one I have is 100% structurally perfect, and already reinforced etc etc..

One characteristic about the Fx1 is its stock hood design.......my Fx has been the driest boat I have ever owned...sometimes after a surfride the insdie of the bilge isnt even wet!

lol..

hows the progress coming? (aside from the motor :sad6:
The FX1 has been rocking for a while now (4-5 months). I pulled the engine and electronics out of my '06 and dropped them into the FX1 along with a brand new bearing housing and motor mounts so as far as running gear goes its a 2006. The couple trouble spots on the hull have been doctored up but I may reinforce it over winter. I wanted ONE ski that would run excellent everytime I took it out and it delivers, but I can't ride it for sh*t....the girly friend loves it though. It is getting a kawasaki 140mm pump conversion this winter.

The hull handles very slippery, stock steering kind of sucks and the pump is not big enough to get the full potential out of the 701. All the cons can be changed to make one killer ski, just a little to small for my liking.

The fx1 is the greatest ski ever made. IMO.... I love how it rides and the lightweight to power ratio. I honestly wouldnt give it up as my majority ride for anything. Again IMO

i had a clean 95 fx1.
it allready had a bunch of handling stuff allready done, and a alum pole too.
the only issue i had with that ski was getting my fat a$$ knee's in the tray without have to wiggle them around to stand up.

i'm a big banana, it was freaking blast on flat water for me.

it's a 550 hull in a yamaha mold on steriods for sure !!!

i rode it, upgraded it, and sold it for a little profit.

the 95 sn i have now is way better for me + i'm sure that one day maybe my $$$'s will get better to put a bb in my sn and ride into the banana closed course.

good luck

The FX1 is a really fun ski, I have been on one for years. I bought it cause I couldn't afford a SJ at the time.
I'm really glad that I bought that ski, now ridding a SJ feels so easy.
