Do it twice?That's DooDoo
I ground all my plastic ziptie hangers off with a grinder and used a dremel with a little cutting wheel to cut off the water/fuel separator then cleaned up the leftover with a grinder... you have to make sure not to go too fast though or maybe you will get the rivet too hot and melt the hoodseal (not sure if this would really happen or not, but the rivets on mine where getting really hot and started smoking a little bit -assuming that was the rubber....)

I have new hangers that I am going to epoxy or 5200 up where the old ones where.... I am going to hang that fuel separator back up somehow too....

I had a brand new hoodseal... was not going to ruin a 100+ dollar seal...

i've seen complete top end rebuild kits for like $200-$250.

You say that the cylinder only needs a hone, then why are you going up one size on the pistons?

i was told tht the cylinders were probably ovalized and that i would need a major hone or bore and probably 81.25mm pistons

well, i got a used ac pole and my wdk bracket is comin, and im gonna break down and put a new crank in too. mine is probably fine, but i was warned that a seal or something coulda caused the damage. and it just so happens that gunrgood has a new crankshaft from sbt, and since the point of this build has become to put together a solid, reliable, long lasting surf ski, im just gonna do it and get it over with. because of the added cost of the motor work stan and i are gonna do the reinforcement ourselves.

i hope this is it.

oh don't keep your fingers crossed... they're be more to come...

But sounds good man. Your gonna have a reliable engine... now to bullet proof your electronics. Have you opened up the ebox? And who is gonna rebuild the engine for you?

If you need any advice on the re enforcement, let me know. I may even be able to come up one weekend and give you a hand.

just seal up your ebox properly. and make sure all your terminals are clean and are making good contact. inspect your wires, if any of them questionable, replace it.

Buy a new ebox gasket. The get worn out and are hard to seal after they are used.

While your starter bendix is out, soak it in Mineral Spirits for about a day. let it dry well (a couple hours) and then drop it in any weight motor oil for a day or two. Then let that dry thoroughly. Inspect the large washer looking things on the bendix for any cracks or chips. Inspect all the teeth on the bendix and flywheel.

A common way for water to get in the fly wheel area is that the oring on the front of the starter wears out. It should be replaced also.

these are all things that John at JSS told me to look out for.

Call John at JSS for the gasket and o ring.

You should just buy a whole engine gasket and seal kit. You might have a couple gaskets left over, but it'll save the head ache of getting them individually.

When it comes to the seals, only use OEM.

Talk to carl too and ask him exactly what you'll need.
