Okay... Its been about 2 months since installing the hood. I really like it so far. The hand holds are like fish bowls but I can live with it. The hood is holding up just fine, but I'm not that hard on it.

One thing I can say that I see as a down fall of only having the breather holes on the hood in the back is that when I'm in the surf and I get stuck on my tail, if the both holes go under water, the engine just chokes out. Some times it take me a second to get back on a plain, especially with the D-cut stock ride plate. I was almost thinking of opening up one or two little tiny holes in the front of the hood to compensate, but if I an x-metal bracket I wouldn't have to worry about that, now would I ??

I'm installing a X-metal pole on my ski and just as with everything else PWC related, I have had some hickups.

First I ordered the pole way too short, so it took about 2 weeks to get it changed out for a tad bit longer one.

Second, I realized after ordering the pole, that my blowsion chin pad wouldn't fit on the pole. No problem, I ordered chin pad from uccspirit (most likely spelled wrong). Great chin pad. So strong, and looks really good.

Third, I am wanted to run an x-metal backing plate that I had lying around, with the WDK bracket. I had to open the center between the two holes up. That formed a nice Mickey Mouse look to the plate.

Fourth, the bolts that I recieved with the WDK hood hooks were too short... So I went out and purhcased new socket head bolts and nylon lock nuts to install the hooks and backing plate to the hull. The local hardware store didn't have the same style bolt as the bolts that came with the WDK hooks, so I purchased something a tad bit larger and opened up the holes on the hood hooks a lil'.

Now, since I still like to have some spring to my pole even though I crank down the bolt, the round nose blowsion spring I have would not work with the x-metal pole. There is no lower lip on the pole for the spring to catch on. So I took the stock spring from my square and modded it to fit with this WDK bracket/x-metal pole combo.

That is where I left off for the the night. Its all down hill from here. Tomorrow I get my x-metal turn plate and bars in the mail, so that can be slapped on after I finishing mounting the pole.

I got spring fabing all done this evening. Took some bending and grinding but it fits really well. When the pole bolt is not tightend, it still holds the pole up pretty high. I was impressed for a stock square spring.

Edit: I just remembered, this is an aftermarket stronger square spring. No wonder it held it so well. haha

The rest was pretty straight forward. Just put pole on the bracket, then put the bracket back on the ski.

I also installed the steering system. I used the JSS thrust washers. All the o-rings and the bearing that were in there since I purchased ski were perfectly fine. I cleaned the threads of the steering post with brake cleaner, and used a new nylon lock nut saturated with red lock tight.

ODI grips will not go onto x-metal bars. The grip area is larger than the rest of the bars. I took a grinder to the bars to get the grips on.

Here are pics of the pole on. Chin pad has not been bolted on yet, and I still have some odds and ends to tie up. The pole is a tiny bit crooked as you can see from the second picture below by a couple degrees. Over all there are a couple of flaws in the pole, but this is the worst.

Got everything installed.

The steering cable stumped me for a little bit, but I figured it out. The steering plate was not hitting the steering stop, but once I adjusted the cable ends, everything was fine.

When I was putting everything back together I ripped a wire out of one of the harnesses for the start and stop switch, so that sucked...

Over all, I had to do a lot of custom stuff to get this pole to fit. It looks really really good. The chin pad I got looks great on the pole. I'll take some more in better light, but this is what I got right now.

Hey Chris, Ski looks real good . . . . . . it's come a long way since it was the wifey's playtoy. . . .

Now it's a "man-ski" for sure . . . Lol ! . . . . I'm glad you're having fun building it.

Did you get those brackets you wanted taken care of yet ?

Are you talking about the handlepole bracket backing plates, or the fire extinguisher bracket?

I have the design for the handlepole bracket backing plate traced on cardboard. No need for the fire extinguisher bracket any longer... I went a different route... I just put a strap in the front of the tray to hold a square nose extinguisher holder box.

I never did anything with the F/E bracket because you never came up with a sample of what you wanted. :dunno: I'm glad you got it worked out anyway.

I can do the backing plates if you want. . . . . just let me know what you want and sends some dimensions . . . . . . . stainless I assume ?

I'll send you some dimensions soon, but I don't think stainless is necessary. The x-metal one is only aluminum, so I think that would sufficient.

you gonna go to pismo this october... if so I can't wait to see the SXR (if its done by then.)

I'd like to do Pismo in October, just depends on how much time and money I spend in 'Havasu during World Finals. Lol ! . . . . . .

I doubt I'd be bringing the SXR anyway, I'd rather ride the Superjet in the surf. I'm sure the SXR will make it to the ocean eventually, once the new wears of of it and I'm used to riding it.

The motor is going in the SXR tonight if all goes well . . . . . . hope to have it on the water by next week ! . . . Whoo hooo !

I've had my Superjet to ride with a new/fresh built motor this year so the SXR build has just been for fun. I'll be glad to have it done but it hasn't been my #1 priority.
